Description hugsr4everyone@live.com 2022-04-04 14:37:33 UTC
Description:
I recently purchased a new laptop running Windows 11 Pro. My old ran Windows 10 Pro. I downloaded and installed the latest edition of LibreOffice and copied my Windows 10 files over to my new computer. I have noticed that in my LibreOffice Calc program when I type a word in a column that is repeated from before a black mark shows up where the completed word would have been. When I hit tab the auto-complete function completes the word correctly. Not a big problem but would be useless in situations where different cells started the same.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Typing in a cell in a column below a cell which contained the same characters
2.
3.

Actual Results:
After typing in a few characters, of a repeated word from a previous cell, black marks appear instead of the characters used in previous cell. When TAB is depressed, the correct phrase is used.

Expected Results:
Normally, when repeating an entry into a cell the previously used entry is printed in the cell legibly allowing you to accept the entry by hitting the TAB key.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Would be a problem at times when multiple phrases start the same.

Version: 7.3.1.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community

Hardware: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

NOTE: If I had seen the following 2 questions earlier, I might have tried them before filling this out. Since this is a new computer, I assume that these items must be ok. Did I miss it? Maybe, it was suggested and I didn't read it.

Hello, Thank you for reporting the bug.

The autocomplet blackmarked word is only the first one by alphabet. For example when you write to a cell "abc" and into next cell "abb", then you will see in the black marked word only "abb". It is years same.

But otherwise I don't understand what is different between what did you write in Actual result and Expected result... Please give us clearer informations.

I find the same behavior in LO 7.4.1.2 but only in the 64bit version. In PortableApps 32 bit is installed and works as it should.
By the way: When you type the first letters and the black boxes appear, you may see in the complete entry in the formula bar but only if there is only one entry with the same starting letters.

If you have different entries, normally the right one can be chosen by <ctrl>+<tab>. In that case the next entry is not displayed, even no black boxes and as well the formula bar doesn't change. Hitting the combination once and then <tab> you get the first entry from above (alphabetically ordered), twice the combination and <tab> reveals the second entry and so on.

Correct behaviour of 32bit LO 7.4.1.2

Autocomple shows the first possible entry as inverted letters (white on black) as expected.

False behaviour of LO 7.4.1.2 64bit

Autocomplete fails to show the next entry as inverted letters. Black boxes occur.

False behaviour on LO 7.4.1.2 64bit with multiple possible instances

Here are three instances possible for autofill. None of them is displayed.

Not sure what fixed the problem. Maybe two weeks ago, I had other problems with my computer and I restored my Windows software to a previous point. I didn't check for this problem right then but now I have noticed the problem seems to have been corrected.
Thanks to all those who looked into this. Hope it hasn't been too much of a pain.
