Description HTK300 2022-05-24 13:27:47 UTC
Description:
LO seems to be not aware of the fact that an attached printer handles DIN A4 papers only which is quite common. So when sending an A3 LO calc sheet (which is 141 % of the size of an A4 paper, it prints it with no alarm but only 71% of that huge content of the A3 sheet on an A4 sheet, yet leaving a lot of the image gone to nirvana.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create a spreadsheet in DIN A3 (no matter portrait or landscape)
2. have it sent to a printer (probably an older generation ink jet)
3. in my case a brother MFC-J6510 which is nine years old
4. the internal paper tray is loaded with A4 paper
5. print the content

Actual Results:
6. A4 is being loaded and the content of A3 paper is being printed on an A4 paper
7. There is no warning about this mismatch !
8. There is no dialog about whether the ontent shall be resized to match the printer and its paper tray.

Expected Results:
If someone has created a sheet with a size other than the generic DIN A4 (in Europe, whereas it is probably letter format in the US), I'd expect LibreOffice to reconfirm somehow about that the paper sizes may not be matching.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
My printer has no sensor about which paper is being loaded to the tray, even it can be loaded with both A4, and A4 papers. This has to be set manually in the printer's menue.

this ignorance in the printing dialog has consumed me quite some ink for I had simply forgotten many times that the currently CALC document that I have been working on is not the standard size (meaning A4) but was an A3 sheet.

Hello HTK300,

I can confirm that. When I print A3 format to A4 printer then come only half of the page. I am not sure if I need information, about my previsous setting. Some designer has to say it?

By my opinion it is not a bug, but behaviour. If it is bug, then minor. But when you want to have an choice of setting that libreoffice tell you about paper size, it is enhancement then. I set so it.

UX Team -- please take a look at this enhancement. Thanks!

I retested this mismatch of designed paper size and real paper inserted to the printer, it worked for both a CANON and a brother printer on LO writer 7.6..
works for me!
