Description sdc.blanco 2022-05-25 12:05:27 UTC
With inspiration from bug 140215 ...

In Windows, the icon for Libreoffice Start Center is labeled "Libreoffice" (in the default installation in the Windows Start menu).

Enhancement proposal is to rename it to: "Libreoffice Start Center"

Reason: All other applications named "Libreoffice (app)", so unclear (at first glance) what "Libreoffice" is supposed to do. Easier to "guess" its likely function with this enhancement.
Comment 1 V Stuart Foote 2022-05-25 12:28:16 UTC
Reasonable. And if the 'Start Center' string is localized I'm OK with this. If not then no.
Comment 2 Rafael Lima 2022-05-25 12:55:54 UTC
I think this is a good idea as well. Localization is an important factor in this case.
Comment 3 Michael Warner 2022-05-28 12:47:01 UTC
Based on Comment 1 and Comment 2 I am marking as NEW enhancement.

Approved by UX...

Cloph, this seems to be easyhackable. Any idea how?

look in source/ooo/folderitem_ooo.scp and the corresponding ulf file. See the safe-mode entry as an example for translated entry.

Sorry for jumping late on this, but I see no point in doing this. I don’t think it’s an unclear shortcut (other software suites have generic launchers with no appendages), and we have never displayed the term “Start Center” anywhere in our UI. In fact, I would argue that “Start Center” is an overblown name for what is simply a *welcome screen*.

Looks odd on W10 when the headline is telling the same as the children. W11 reorganized access to installed apps and wont show the tree anymore, IIRC.

Screenshot taken from KDE's app starter. Same here, you don't know what you start. I support the Start Center addition.

Irrelevant. It is a KDE bug that it doesn’t sort the entries correctly.

And re: comment 7, no, the tree UI still exists on Windows 11, so the point is moot
