Description: With visible Formatting Marks the Writer user cannot see the distinction between a normal paragraphs and Unnumbered Entries. It would be helpful when an alternative Formatting Mark is chosen to make the distinction. I am aware that it can be seen indirectly, after reasoning, by looking at the number of next numbered entry. Not everyone would do this reasoning and a different Mark symbol would make recognition more intuitive. There must be a good reason why they are called List Entries. I would therefore recommend to show the end of a numbered entry with a different symbol. I think § would be a good candidate since I see it often used to indicate paragraph numbers. Unnumbered entries then can remain like they are and end with the ¶ symbol. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make a Numbered List with one entry of random text 2. Somewhere in the middle of the text do a Format > Lists > Insert Unnumbered Entry Actual Results: Both entries show the same paragraph Formatting Mark Expected Results: Both entries should end with a different Formatting Mark because they are not the same. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes Additional Info: My proposal is that the § symbol is used for numbered entries and the ¶ for paragraphs and unnumbered list entries.
Interesting idea, but why wouldn't unnumbered entries also get § (to indicate that it is a list paragraph)? (and presumably this should be generalized to include all list paragraphs -- even if they use bullets, etc.)
An indicator for only unnumbered list styles makes not much sense to me since this is just one special situation. But the generic idea is to show an indicator for the styles requested in bug 38194. Btw, you remove the number also with backward delete at the beginning of the numbered paragraph. See also the Styles Inspector what happens. Mike, do you agree with WF?
The topic was on the agenda of the design meeting but didn't receive further comments. Any special paragraph break symbol would be hard to spot. Unnumbered lists are just one kind of lists and we better realize the feedback with a styles highlighter.
