Description P. Förster 2022-05-25 15:46:32 UTC
Description:
LibreOffice crashes if I resize the right sidebar (expanded) using the mouse cursor. The application freezes. The mouse cursor stays as the resize icon and doesn't respond (neither in LibreOffice nor in my desktop environment). I have to use keyboard shortcuts to open a terminal window and kill the application (using htop; xkill says: unable to grab cursor). It only happens in Writer and Calc. I can always reproduce this.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Writer or Calc
2. Open the Properties tab of the right sidebar
3. Try to resize the sidebar

Actual Results:
The mouse cursor freezes and I can't use it (neither for LibreOffice nor for any other application).

Expected Results:
The sidebar should have been resized.

Reproducible: Always

I cannot reproduce this bug on my machine. However, my setup is using a 1920x1080p display with 100% scale. I'm on KDE as well.

If I had to guess, I'd say this may have something to do with your screen resolution and global scaling. Can you try with 100% scale factor and see if the bug persists? Also with other screen resolutions?

Comment 2 P. Förster 2022-05-26 14:53:55 UTC
I changed the screen resolution to 1920x1080 and global scaling to 100%. After rebooting resizing the sidebar worked as expected and Writer didn't crash.

The next thing I tried was setting the screen resolution to 3840x2160 and leaving global scaling at 100%. It didn't crash too.

After switching back to my original settings I could reproduce the crash again.

So we know: the problem may be caused by the global scaling.

Are there any other information I could provide?

Apparently we have a problem calculating the maximum width of the sidebar when a scaling factor is applied.

I do not have a PC with a 4K display to confirm this bug. So I'm setting this to UNCONFIRMED for now to see if anyone else with a 4K display to test it.
