Description Nico 2022-06-10 08:12:15 UTC
Description:
I'm working with LibreOffice Draw to create a map of our companies building to see where which PC / Network Patch / Printer is located. Now I'm worked for quite some days already just on the Ground level. The program keeps crashing when I group some items and sometimes items just disappear when recovering.
Those items that disappeared were there at least 2 saves & files ago.

I also try to make it easier by sorting things in the Navigator. For example I move every Patch X.X entry so I have them in one place to know where to look if something is missing but on each or some crashes it shuffles them back in the order I created the items. As a workaround I have cut and pasted each of those entries in the order they should be. It's a long process but I finally have a somewhat sorted list.

In an attempt to fix this issue I've also tried to create a new .odg file and copy what I already got over, however in the new file I cannot rearrange anything via Draw & Drop in the Navigator (F5) while it still works in the old file. It gives me the circle with a line crossing through (no parking sign) while in the old file I have a dotted rectangle next to the mouse.

The program also keeps crashing when I group certain items and I don't really see why. Sometimes I just cut and past everything and it works fine and in one case I tried to figure out what breaks it so I selected 2, grouped safed, ungrouped, selected 3, grouped again, safed, ungrouped, and I kept going until the whole thing was grouped and safed even tho it was crashing when I included that shape.

The worst thing about these crashes is, that it sometimes just deletes one or two items out of nowhere and I am very afraid of not finding the missing items since it's a bit complicated and hard to find every single one of them. :C

I would say I can reproduce this issue and I have created multiple reports that should have been send yesterday 09/06/2022 on nearly every occasion where it crashed. I forgot to write down the error report however.

The most surprising thing about this is, I mainly use rectangular shapes that cause the issue yet I would understand it more if it was a very strange/special shape with 10 or more edges. In case it's important I work on a A0 sized map which will be later converted into a PDF for printing of specific sections.

While trying to isolate the bug, I created a new file, copied the shapes that usually would have caused the issue into a new file, then grouped those and now it worked. But when closing the file it created the following Report.
https://crashreport.libreoffice.org/stats/crash_details/047fb653-f986-4c29-be47-ef2c4160b837

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select shaped on my Drawing
2. Group them
3. Save

Actual Results:
Crashes and rearranges the Navigator list or even deletes created shapes.

Expected Results:
Grouping the items and saving the file successfully.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I don't know. Work as expected I guess or give an error message "Shape (if names <Name of Shape> cannot be grouped. Reason: XYZ"
Basically not crash the program and give details about why it doesn't work.

Hi, can you paste your system info / LO version?

For that, just go to Help - About LibreOffice and copy the System Information.

Also, can you provide a small sample file where the bug always occurs so we can confirm the bug?
Comment 2 Nico 2022-06-10 13:40:47 UTC
Is this it?

Version: 7.3.3.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d1d0ea68f081ee2800a922cac8f79445e4603348
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_DE); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Also for today I'm done working on the plan. If I can get a file where I can narrow down the issue for reproduction, I will add a copy without our company information.

As additional information in the navigator I don't use special characters like []{}\;: etc. but regular characters like - . & /. Just to narrow down the issue. I try to avoid them since they are programming characters.

Fortunately you're using an up-to-date version of LibO.

I could reproduce the grouping behavior deleting shapes, but could not define a certain series of steps to reproduce the issue.

Haven't yet had the time to continue working on the file as some things came up urgently. Will try to get a "bugged" file for you as soon as I can.

I did a quick run but when I tried to prepare the file by removing everything important like exact layouts or specific shapes and pictures and tried to regroup and safe, everything was fine after saving and closing. :/

It seems a bit impossible to always pinpoint it down to one thing. It's pretty annoying for me and I imagine for you guys too since it's hard to reproduce. I would love to send you guys the whole files but I cannot legally do so for GDPR reasons and company security. :C
