Description Gerhard Schmidt 2022-06-22 15:43:46 UTC
I work on documents with a lot of pictures. And I noticed two bugs.

The first bug is: LibreOffice ignores when selecting proportional sizes. So having this checkbox checked, changes to the width or height of the picture are simply ignored and do not trigger a proportional size change in both dimensions.

The second bug concerns changing the height of pictures. It only appears, if the height is manually set to a certain percentage, not with the two arrows provided. When changing the width manually to a certain percentage, the automatic size correction works perfect. But changing the height manually does not automatically change the size correction. When closing the window and re-opening, the 100% size re-appears. The automatic size correction does not work. That bug appeared over the recent one or two years. It was not in older versions.

Not repro, neither in LO 7.3.4 nor in LO 7.5 alpha.

To test:
1) Insert an image in the document
2) Right-click - Properties
3) Go to the Type tab
4) Check "Keep ratio"
5) Select the value in the Height input box and type another value
6) Click OK
7) The aspect ratio is maintained

Width changed, height doesn't follow.
Comment 4 Gerhard Schmidt 2022-06-23 10:12:25 UTC
Hi again.

My first bug (no scaling) hasn't been fixed in 7.3.4, my second bug (no size change when changing height) has been fixed in 7.3.4 (thanks for that).

See picture1.png in the attachment for such a picture.

If I change the width from 90% to 80%, the height should follow that, but it doesn't (see picture2 attached): the height remains at 90%.

And: all previous versions of LibreOffice, that I am aware of, have that bug.

1) Insert an image in the document
2) Right-click - Properties
3) Go to Crop tab
4) Notice Keep Scale ratio button being active
5) Go to Scale and change 75% width to say 50%

OP expects Height to be adapted too. A valid request, but the 'Keep Scale' is limited to 'crop' functionality..

Something like a lock would be nice, to do a async change..

Keep Scale vs. Keep Image Size are options for the cropping. If you have an image with 10x10cm and you crop from left by 5cm the first option keeps the image proportion resulting in 5x10cm and the second the image size resulting in 10x10cm. See also https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/01/05030800.html

If you scale the image, eg. by 50%, it always results in a smaller image. The proportional scaling as known from mouse interaction at the image edge is apparently not available.

Cannot follow/confirm the second bug. Changing width/height at image size is applied to the scale percentages of width/height. But of course you have to leave the control - or press up/down. At least something to confirm the input. Maybe you mix up crop and scale here too. => NEEDINFO

@Heiko
You have a 'Keep Ratio' checkbox at Image Properties -> Type tab
The user here uses the Crop Tab - Scale setting -> To adjust the image size. But changing the scale of width, doesn't adjust the height. It's lacking the 'Keep Ratio' checkbox similar to the Type Tab.

Note: I commented on the fact of the functionality duplication (defining image size). At the one hand at Crop Tab at the other hand at the Type Tab

Off-topic: I find a checkbox keep ratio (currently found on type tab) visually unappealing: I like this more https://i.stack.imgur.com/0SwzL.png

Topic was on the agenda of the design meeting but didnt receive further input.

We may add some "lock" icon between height/width to keep the ratio but I would prefer to keep the dialog simple. And this "lock" potentially clashes with the other options. => WF
