Description: Lenovo Thinkpad, Windows 10, Libre Office Writer Version: 6.3.0.4 (x64) Build ID: 057fc023c990d676a43019934386b85b21a9ee99 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: default; VCL: win; Locale: en-US (en_US); UI-Language: en-US Summary: As a user, I would like to view a low-zoom version of my 20+ page document in a sidebar panel, that can also be used for navigation. I am working on a twenty plus page written document. The document contains many sections, some in outline, some in chart, and some long sections of text. Think academic/professional reports, case studies, research projects, etc. Love your product! Thanks, G Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open LibreOffice Writer. 2. Open sidebar panel. Actual Results: Feature not currently in release. Expected Results: Print Preview view of the entire document. A low-zoom version I can scroll quickly through, click on a page, and jump to that page, to quickly get in and out of different sections. Follows all expected behavior for sidebar panels. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: n/a
Would this be equivalent to having a sidebar with page thumbnails as we have in LibreOffice Draw?
UX-team, we need your opinion from my side - why not? so +1 btw, I think I saw the same suggestion, but I couldn't find it
It could be the equivalent of the Page Pane that we have in LibreOffice Draw, with a toggle to show/hide it. I can see myself using this new feature. It would make it easier to quickly look through the entire document without having to zoom out.
If you talk about "20+ page document", do you have Writer in mind? Guess the print preview is expensive on resources. => needsDevAdvice
The topic was on the agenda of the design meeting but didn't receive further input. The sidebar thumbnails wouldn't be a proper print preview and actually the workflow is somewhat unclear (who needs to continuously observe what WYSIWYG aspects are not correctly depicted on the canvas). But since the impact on UX is low I leave the decision to developers. Guess the print preview takes a lot resources.
