Sample document: Jack London - White Fang.odt

When large enough document, saved with web view, opens in Writer, it splits on some pages depend on its size. But text fragments skips between pages.

It is possible to switch between readonly and edit modes some times, scroll document top and bottom etc. Pages count would be reduced, and text fragments stoped to skip, but only for current session. After next document opening everything repeat.

I use Windows 7 (x64) and tested this bug on LibreOffice versions (x64): 7.1.8, 7.2.7 and 7.3.4.

I just tested LibreOffice v3.3 (portable) with this sample document. When document opens, it shows 17 pages in status bar. But this number automatically decreases to 3 in a some seconds. I don't see any missing text there.

LibreOffice 7 also starts with 17 pages, then number decreases to 8 and stops to decrease. But if I toggle (show/hide) side bar (or do some other actions like change to edit mode and scroll top-bottom), this number also decreases to 3, and no missing text.

It seems, 17 pages there is sort of draft calculating. And after that LibO 3.3 calculates more accurate, but new versions stops to do it for some reason.

I cannot reproduce the cut-off text with

Version: 7.3.4.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 30(Build:2)
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.10; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: en-GB (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
7.3.4-2
Calc: threaded

Pagination is a separate issue which if you want to report, you should open a new bug report. But the issue of page breaks in web view has been discussed before ( see bug 141077) and was closed as WONTFIX.

I tried to reproduce it on Linux Mint 19.3 (from VMware) and cannot do it there. But this bug appears in my main Windows 7 and clean Windows 7 on VirtualBox.

> Pagination is a separate issue

May be, but pagination issue can be one of the reasons of this issue.

What we probably need is to switch page before pagination process finished (i.e. while pages count shown on status bar larger than minimum). Fastest way to switch page is clicking pages section on status bar. And it's better to disable showing headers tree there (if enabled). So I open sample document and then switching page to 2 or 3 as fast as I can. In Linux Mint I dont see any page separators in position where it scrolled to. But I Windows 7 I see separator and some text missing.

Notes:
- My main Windows 7 and LibreOffice here is x64.
- Windows 7 on VirtualBox and its LibreOffice is x32.
- LinuxMint 19.3 on VMware and its LibreOffice is x32.
- LibreOffice version on each system is 7.3.4.

Reproducible using Version: 7.3.4.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 728fec16bd5f605073805c3c9e7c4212a0120dc5
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-GB (en_US); UI: en-GB
Calc: CL

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open attachment 181016 [details]
2. Scroll to a page break

Actual result:
First line of text of the page after the page break has its top part cut off.

Expected result:
Line of text should not be cut off.
Comment 7 Alexey 2022-07-10 11:49:17 UTC
Note that there more than one line of text missing.

Here it better visible. I created document with 10000 numbers in a column, so we see numbered lines. And here's result: 260 lines missing in my screen shot.

I have seen this problem with a bunch of versions of LibreOffice Writer.
Currently, I run 7.3.5.2 on Kubuntu.
It always happens with View -> Web.
Also, the search feature doesn’t find words until I click on
View -> Normal and then View -> Web.

I have never seen anyone confirm that this bug is present.
A couple of people have told me that I have page breaks.
I don’t know what that is.
The same ODT file opens fine and renders fine on MS Word 2016.

I don’t know if people are pretending that the bug doesn’t exist or what:

I have not manually added any bars in my files. I have thousands of ODT files and they have all been created by me as I create documents on various subjects and as I keep adding more text to the ODT files.
Eventually, every document gets bars in random places.
The documents only create text, with arial font, size 10 or 22 and in some cases, they contain images.
Is there any plan to solve this bug?
