Description: If you L-click on the Set Paragraph Style drop-down menu, the Title style is grayed out. Not only that, but if you try to type something or convert text to that style, the text becomes invisible. Furthermore, if you have Toggle Automatic Spell Checking selected and misspell the title, you will see a red squiggly line underneath the invisible text. Likewise, if you do not capitalize the title, you will be a blue squiggly line underneath the invisible text. If you R-click either the red or blue squiggly line, you will get the appropriate suggestions. If you select More Styles from the Set Paragraph Style drop-down menu, there appears to be no listing for the Title style in the Styles Sidebar (although there is a blank, white space beneath the Subtitle listing, which if you hover the cursor over that blank space a pop-up will appear that indicates Title). The only time the Title listing appears in the Sidebar is if you have the grayed out Title listing selected in the Set Paragraph Style drop-down menu. Print preview shows a blank space where the Title should be (so it's invisible to both monitor and printer). This never used to be an issue. I do not believe this was an issue with 7.3.5, but I may simply have not done any work utilizing Paragraph Styles, but it has been an issue with 7.4.0.3 and 7.4.1.1. Steps to Reproduce: 1. L-click on the Set Paragraph Style drop-down menu 2. Title style is grayed out (more details in description above) Actual Results: Blank, white space where Title should be inserted. Expected Results: Title to be printed in document instead of having to use and modify another paragraph style. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes Additional Info: Version: 7.4.1.1 (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 0a046a10cbf1679eea5538bd3ab63156caa3a036 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
Forget to mention in my original bug report above, that the issue is the same with version 7.4.0.3 except that it effects Heading 3 or Heading 4 (cannot recall for sure which as I only played with that version for a couple hours until I discovered the annoying issue of the program not remembering to maximize the window setting after closing the program and then reopening it) instead of Title as in 7.4.1.1.
Just an update. I did try starting in Safe Mode, and the bug was no longer present. Sorry about indicating that I had done it earlier, but I must have only rebooted in Safe Mode with the problem from the day before with 7.4.0.3 (the one where LO would not remember the last window size and repeatedly reopen in a less than fully maximized window size). This also means that Safe Mode could have fixed this bug in 7.4.0.3 as well, but at that time I was only checking on the pesky window size issue. I just tried to change the Importance of this to Major, but the system would not let me. I think not being able to use a basic word processing function, such as not being able to use the Title Paragraph Style is a major issue. I cannot figure out why version 7.4.0.3 would exhibit the grayed out Set Paragraph Style by graying out the Heading 3 or 4 menu selection while the newer version 7.4.1.1 would gray out the Title menu selection instead. I wanted to check to see if a previously written document using the Title style would display and print normally, but I apparently have never used the Title style for any of my work. P.S. I don't know if your experimenting with implementing a Dark Mode has anything to do with these new bugs, but as it works right now, I really hate the Dark Mode (I had to disable Experimental Features to get rid of it).
By the way, when I run Safe Mode, I simply use the default setting of Restore from Backup and then select Continue in Safe Mode. The bug goes away upon loading. But when I then reboot in Normal Mode, the bug reappears. What then? I do not have any User Extensions installed (except for those preinstalled) and do not use Hardware Acceleration.
New wrinkle in this bug. The bug goes away if you open LO Writer up in Safe Mode, but upon closing and reopening the program, the bug returns. So, even though I have no extensions installed, I went through each Safe Mode option from top to bottom, one radio button and one check box at a time. I finally got down to the option I dread, which is resetting everything to factory select mode, which causes a hell of a lot of work getting my preferences back the way I like them. So, the bug went away with the factory reset, so I reset all my preferences one option page a time and rechecked. The bug then reappeared as soon as I opened an existing document (instead of the default document page). The document I loaded was a fairly heavily styled document -- but it did not use the Title Paragraph Style, yet that is what was grayed out and no longer worked. So, all that work for nothing. I have a lot of other things I want and really need to be doing, but I have to continually spend countless hours troubleshooting bugs that should never have made it through...and this is version after version after version for about two years now. I had to load this 7.4.1.1 version because of the window sizing issue with 7.4.0.3. I also notice that you have still not fixed the letter size dimensions issue. How long are you going to let that to? And I just now realized that none of my custom character styles were saved upon doing the Safe Mode route you always insist users do. Joy! No other word processor I've ever used in the last 30 years has ever required me to open in Safe Mode and then spend half an hour putting everything back the way it was. Too much work on bells and whistles such as Dark Mode when basic word processor functions do not work. If you cannot even get the proper page size for a letter document and let users have to figure out they have to use Moderate Margins instead of intuitively using the Normal (0.75") setting, then I don't know why you are spending all this time and energy to continuously update adding features instead of fixing issues fundamental to the operation of the program. All the bells and whistles don't mean anything if the damned program is nothing but a giant headache to users, even for those in technical professions such as myself. Too bug riddled, too complicated, unintuitive, and user unfriendly. Instead of changing the icons for Writer, Calc, etc. (and you did not even do so uniformly throughout), please start working on the real problems.
I give up. I will not report any more bugs, since it appears to generally be a monumental waste of time. I only reported what I thought were the serious bugs, but for the most part it's been to no avail. It seems as though everyone is off doing their own thing, but nobody is guiding the ship and the result is the ship is floundering. It's too bad that so much time and effort has gone into this project, but without a captain at the helm, the ship is destined to either run aground or sink. I'm off the CC list now on all my bug reports, since it's obvious you do not want or appreciate users inputs, so that should make ignoring me much easier.
You can't confirm your own bugs. Please let others confirm it. Thanks
I don't repro. I will close as reporter is ignoring all reports and thus will not get back with more info.
