Description texstar 2022-09-16 08:07:55 UTC
After upgrading icu to 71.1 LibreOffice 7.4.x crashes when trying to print a text document.

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException'

I removed 7.4.x and installed 7.3.6 and printing works fine in that version.

I forgot to add that I used the prepackaged rpms from the LibreOffice website. I did not build Libreoffice from source.

How do you determine it would be related to ICU 71.1?

What platform/OS anyway? Setting that (Hardware) to All/All doesn't make sense if you experienced it on one platform only.

Just some context:

Texstar is the Lead Developer for PCLinuxOS. Several users have complained of this problem since upgrading their systems. I have not yet upgraded and still have printing with ICU 69 and LibreOffice 7.4.0.3 Build https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/gitweb?p=core.git;a=log;h=f85e47c08ddd19c015c0114a68350214f7066f5a.

This is not generally reproducible, so please ask users to test with master 7.5+ from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html or with 7.4 master.
Easy way to test master is with AppImage file created per https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel/Linux

So to recap, you installed LO 7.4.1 (or 7.4.0? or does it happen with both?) TDF build that bundles an internal ICU 71.1, and that prints fine until you upgrade your system's ICU from 69 to to 71.1?

Could you please attach a backtrace of the crash? For this, invoke
/opt/libreoffice7.4/program/soffice --backtrace
and attach the resulting gdbtrace.log

Also please attach the output of
ldd /opt/libreoffice7.4/program/soffice.bin

I had some time today so I took an old install, updated LibreOffice rpms and only updated ICU to 71.1 and LibreOffice still prints. So there is something else that was part of the ICU update/rebuild that is breaking our printing in LibreOffice. Now to track down what package what was rebuilt against icu 71.1 that is causing the printing problem in the 7.4.x series of LibreOffice. Sure glad 7.3.6 is not affected.
