Sample slide (PPTX)

I must have reached a half dozen reports of text rendering horizontally
instead of vertically or vice versa - apparently PowerPoint users are
very creative in coming up with different ways to articulate direction...

How to reproduce: Open sample document and observe how the text in the
three text boxes is very condensed (not really readable) and renders
horizontally instead of vertically.

Seen with

  Version: 7.5.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community
  Build ID: e79741488cc740f49ebd4426c40b45e7139ff663
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.19; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
  Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US

and I reproduced with all release branches back to 6.4 (which is the
earliest I have).

Comment 2 Rafael Lima 2022-09-21 14:28:52 UTC
I can confirm this with all the versions of LO I have available for testing, including the latest build.

Version: 7.5.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: bdf346830b735aa484fba0df94be71fd1ea5cdfd
CPU threads: 16; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: pt-BR (pt_BR.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

I'd say this is inherited from OO, but I can't confirm.

In MS Powerpoint this is stacked text. AFAIK Impress does not support stacked text orientation.

confirm with Version: 7.4.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 6500106dff0f0cd86f509ffd01542aab77c21596
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: cs-CZ (cs_CZ.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded Jumbo

Screenshot with LibreOffice Impress as of 20240217

As of today, and after

Attila Szűcs committed a patch related to this issue.
It has been pushed to "master":

  https://git.libreoffice.org/core/commit/f846efa507252b0584d2753a251f2dd99c34541a

tdf#67347 pptx import: stacked text, minimal impl.

the situation has improved quite a bit; see this new screenshot.

Just the text appears higher vertically than with PowerPoint.

Happy to confirm as the original reporter that with tonight's build
this really looks great. Thank you, Attila!
