Likely a duplicate of bug 61444. But not 100% sure
I can only see, that line moves a bit to the right. But for me this is expected and not related to kerning. Perhaps you can add a screenshot to make difference more visible? I tested this by taking screenshots of the non-italic and italic states and pasting to GIMP. I cut the right side of the sentence from the other screenshot and lined it above the other. I zoomed in and for comparison used GIMP's guide lines that can be pulled from the ruler. I did not see any difference. Please check it again.
