Created attachment 182880 [details] A screenshot of the paper selection size menu in the Print dialog With the 7.4.1.2 release, the paper sizes in the Print dialog have changed. Instead of named sizes like "Letter" and "A4," they are a combination of named sizes and inch sizes, at least in the US English version. There are several problems with this. 1) The list of available sizes has changed. I used to use US Half-Letter (5.5 X 8.5 in), but it is no longer on the list. What other changes are there? 2) The sizes are identified by inch measurements instead of names. This probably means that they are converted from metric to US, without explanation. This is unacceptable. Nobody uses paper sizes with names that have been converted from a foreign system. The US system uses simple inch sizes, and the SI uses simple millimeter sizes. We don't mix them in real life. You need to stick with sizes that are sold, using the names they are sold under. 3) As before, the list is not ordered in any way that is immediately apparent. It seems to be random. At least if the sizes were in ascending order, I could have some hope of using them. But I don't know what they are. "If we had ham, we could have ham and cheese sandwiches, if we had cheese." Please do not take this as a trivial complaint from just one individual user. These changes are obviously and objectively non-optimal. Please revert them immediately. The old list was not perfect, but it was 150% better. Thanks
I also don't see the 6 X 9 inch size, which is the most common trade paperback size. What is this list? Did somebody have indigestion, and have a bad dream?
A) Which Printer are you using, the paper list tends to vary across different printers... makes it easier to reproduce B) Was 7.4.0. Ok? Or did you switch from 7.3 branch to 7.4.1 branch?
Created attachment 182886 [details] Paper list after deleting printers
As suggested, I looked into the printers registered to my device. There were two, my current HP inkjet and my old one. I deleted them both and restarted the computer. The paper selection is back to normal. 1) I recommend this bug be closed. 2) I apologize profusely for implying that it was LibreOffice's fault, and for getting upset about it. 3) I hope this can help somebody. 4) I am still bothered that it happened. I feel like I'm back to the TRS-80 days, where you couldn't really control what happened on your box, or at least you really had to work at it. I realize this is just part of the world of printers, but I wonder if there is anything that can be done about it. 5) Is this glitch (it's not really a glitch, since there is no "code" that causes it, just the open door to populate the list based on printer feedback) documented on the wiki? thanks, Coby
