Description Bee 2022-10-21 11:21:26 UTC
Description:
In my newly upgraded Libre Office it takes upward of 15 seconds to open a document I have on my desktop. If I touch the libre window with my cursor (hoping to speed it along) it gives me the ERROR "Libre office not responding"... should I "wait" ... etc

Steps to Reproduce:
1.click on a previously opened writing document
2.wait - sometimes 15, 20 seconds
3.if I touch the opening window with my cursor it results in a "not responding" error

Actual Results:
The document eventually opens after 20 seconds

Expected Results:
It should have opned my document after I click on it

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
It does not happen when I open a NEW document (by clicking on the program shortcut) which opens immediately! So does an empty writing document from the newly opened program display.

BUT trying to open one of my formerly created documents - there in the program display which shows all my recent docs - they do NOT open - except with a long long 16 -20 second wait.

Please test with a clean profile, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode
Comment 2 Bee 2022-10-22 12:05:42 UTC
H!

Since I really can't find anywhere how to change my profile across all old documents and new documents. There's a difference right?

ANYWAY,

1.) I just restarted in safe mode and reset factory settings (checking both boxes under that heading.)

Nothing changed with my ability to open older documents

2.) I followed somebody's and changed /4/user to 4/user-old

Tested: opening new documents are fine, but older ones - we're back to sluggish not opening... (or else taking forever and I don't wait.)

3.) ? please help

If I am understanding what we're trying to do is DLEET all profiles and start with a new one??

thanks!

Profile doesn't interfere about the files being new or old to load.
Maybe the old files were saving with something that it's not fine for your LO version.
Please in any case update your version, 7.3.0.0.alpha1 it's not a productive version and old now.
You can find newer versions in:

Hello!

Some progress: I did downlaod and install 7.4.2

AND - lots of my documents open swiftly and perfectly.... but some still do not. Even some taken from two weeks ago - before I downlaoded a new version of Libre Office.

(by the way, I had version 7.3 when I had the problem the first time... and since tried 7.3.6 as well. None worked)

Once a sluggish document opens after waiting a long time - I cut and paste the contents inot a new document - and that opens swiftly, every time!

I have just figured something out:

Documents I have made past or present by PASTING TEXT FROM THE INTERNET ... are not all opening swiftly - but some are....

Documents I created and wrote ALL open swiftly, immediately!

I was wrong - documents I created and wrote DON'T all open swiftly.

7 out of 10 documents open swiftly (I just tested 20 documents)

I cannot figure out any pattern or why some do some don't..
Comment 7 m_a_riosv 2022-10-23 12:28:39 UTC
Please verify if those slow documents have external links, Menu/Edit/Link to external files.
This can happen if some of those external links are not available.
Comment 8 Bee 2022-10-23 21:20:19 UTC
No external links - that I can see -
BUT - sometimes I copy recipes or essays and articles from a webpage into a new document - and although I try to "clear formatting" - I may not get it all....?

Can you share a sample file with the issue?

document I created by copying content from an internet blog

Here's the only document in the last 3 days that has given me a little issue. Little - means 5 seconds to open instead of immediately. In the past I had documents opening in 15 seconds or more. So it all has vastly improved , and I don't know why!!

If you don't see anything wrong with the document I attached, let me know.

If it is all ok, I will drop this tech investigation!

As I said, it seems ok now except for an occasional document that opens for 5 seconds) - a far cry from taking 20 seconds!!

so, let me know that document I sent you is ok.

And I will consider this resolved, even though I'm sure how or why - but figure as you said - the updated version worked everything out!
thanks

No delay for me:
Version: 7.4.2.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 382eef1f22670f7f4118c8c2dd222ec7ad009daf
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: es-ES (es_ES); UI: en-US
Calc: CL
Version: 7.3.7.1 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: ee816339cde623389f19e5eb99a60dbf03ee8b66
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: es-ES (es_ES); UI: es-ES
Calc: CL

Have you tested with a newer version, an alfa version for a mayor release it's a good candidate for issues.

document I created from scratch a year ago

took 6 full seconds to open
Comment 15 Bee 2022-11-04 12:07:13 UTC
CAn you pinpoint a specific version in that list? I have been working with 7.4.2.3 since the first time you suggested I updgrade. I think I attached another document above. It took a full 6 minutes to open. (Way better all around than the first complaint I had with 20 seconds to open!

Also I have Windows 11 - are all these versions really tested with WINDOWS 11?

Please try changing the option about printer configuration in:
Menu/Tools/LibreOffice/Load&Save/Load - Load printer settings with the document.

Sometimes, when LibreOffice is trying to connect to a printer not available, has delays.

But for me, your last document open instantly. (7.4.2.3)
Comment 17 Bee 2022-11-05 10:05:05 UTC
Yay!

I did what you suggested and the same document opened immediately.

open libre office > tools > options > load & save > general > unchecked 'Load printer settings with the document'

Thank you!!

Sorry, we use FIXED when some patch to solve the issue is done. Not this case.
Comment 19 Bee 2022-11-05 12:16:04 UTC
thank you again!
Comment 20 Mike Kaganski 2024-11-02 17:17:40 UTC
It is not resolved, other than duplicate. Dropping the printer data when opening may help a specific user problem, but is not a resolution of the bug.
