Description Mark C 2022-10-28 03:21:16 UTC
LibreOffice is a great product but there are some oddities that are hard to understand.

I have a fairly simply column/line graph - straight lines with no symbols. Occasionally there is an unusually high or low value in the line on my graph that I want to emphasize by adding a data label. When I click on the line, it highlights the series with a blue square symbol at each data point. This suggests that I could select a single data point, but I cannot -- each attempt to do so has no effect, the entire series remains selected. I expected to be able to click on a point to select it and right-click to Insert Single Data Label, but this does not work - you cannot click to select any data point.

To add a single data label to a line with no symbols, you must first right click to choose Format Data Series and then choose a symbol for the line in the pop-ip dialogue, and click OK. Now you can select the data point you want to highlight and right-click to choose Insert Single Data Label.

Once the data label is set, then I have to reverse the whole process. Click away from the series to deselect the data point. Then click on the series and right click Format Data Series, set the line to No Symbol and click OK.

This bug has existed for a number of years, it is not a recent regression. (Well, I say "bug" but perhaps it is an enhancement request to be able to choose a data point on a graph line series that has no symbols and choose Insert Single Data Label.)

Honestly, I thought my text description from Oct 2022 could not have been more clear.

Resetting status to NeedInfo as requested.

Thanks. I think this can be accepted as a feature request without further decisionmaking.

Thank you Buovjaga.

I'm not sure why the bot sent another message about the NEEDINFO status.

Apologies for the noise. It is a known problem and it is being investigated.
