Description maidmar4 2022-10-28 20:21:15 UTC
Description:
Problem started straight after I upgraded to LibreOffice 7.4.2 via PatchMyPC. Every time I open a Writer doc or Calc Spreadsheet I get a Windows Security Virus & Threat Protection message pop up which states: Unauthorised changes blocked. Controlled folder access blocked soffice.bin from making changes.
I have run a full Windows Defender security scan on my hard disc. No threats were detected.
I am very security conscious and do not want to make changes to my Windows 10 security settings.
In simple language (I am not a techie!) what can I do to solve this problem??
Have the files I have opened with LibreOffice 7.4.2 been infected?
Please help.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.click on document or calc file or LibreOffice 7.4.2 icon
2.
3.

Actual Results:
File opens, then a couple of seconds later Windows security message pops up but quickly disappears and am able to edit file.

Expected Results:
Not to get the security message.

Reproducible: Always

In:

Windows Security > Virus and Threat Protection > Virus and threat protection settings > Controlled folder access > Allow an app through controlled folder access

... you can add an exception for LibreOffice.

I am not sure why LibreOffice is considered dangerous, maybe it takes a bit of time for Microsoft to consider new versions "friendly".

Is that a sufficient workaround in your opinion? I'm not sure there is much more we can do on our end, but I could be wrong.
