Description David 2022-11-04 16:49:09 UTC
Description:
Bought a brand new HP Omen laptop (Model N0797Nnr, AMD Ryzen 7 6800H, Windows11, Nvidia GeforceRTX 3060 6GB) Installed fresh LibreOffice 7.3.7.2 (x64).
Open Launcher, select create Writer Document. Writer Document opens and immediately crashes.
In safe mode, Configure>Disable hardware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan); then Writer works.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Launcher
2.Open Create new Writer Document
3.Writer Document app opens and immediately crashes, no error code or window

Actual Results:
Writer is not usable if it crashes immediately.
Workaround:
1. Start in "Safe Mode" then;
2. Select "Configure" and CHECK "Disable hardware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan);
3. Continue "Apply Changes and Restart"
4. Launcher Opens, select create Writer Document; Writer works as intended.

Expected Results:
By disabling the hardware acceleration, Writer works.
Resetting the User Profile does not fix this issue.
Select "Configure" and CHECK "Disable hardware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan);
3. Continue "Apply Changes and Restart"
4. Launcher Opens, select create Writer Document; Writer works as intended.

Reproducible: Always

If you are using for the graphics card, the drivers from windows updates. Try to update them directly from the card manufacturer.

Thank you all for your responses. I have been using LibreOffice for some time now on 3 other laptops/desktops with no issues. So I think what happen is the Nvidia driver had not updated at the time I was testing this. The next day everything works fine. My apologize for not waiting to see if this problem worked itself out. The update cycle on a new computer is time consuming. I 'thought" all was updated, the Nvidia drive was not. Currently, Nvidia driver is 512.78 (direct X 12.0), and I started in safe mode, and at the bottom "reset to the factory settings" to be sure, restart in normal mode. Everything works perfect! This is a wonderful community and my wife and 2 teenage kids appreciate using LibreOffice.
