Description: Hi, Lately, I keep getting 3 or 4 empty text files in the desktop, with names consisting of random strings of letters and digits, like TSiBZowB.html.part or nI273xWb.docx.part, after using LibreOffice. It are blank files, without any text within. I'm using Xubuntu 22.04 LTS and this is the first time it happens to me in all OS I have using this far, including all versions of Windows and many Linux distros. Then, I tested also a fresh install of Kubuntu 22.04 LTS and... yep, also happens under KDE. There are other people to whom this is happening too. Below I send you a link to similar problem: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/770866/random-html-files-keep-appearing-on-my-desktop-seemingly-at-random/ They believe it's perhaps caused by a Windows malware, but I think it is not the case, but maybe a LibreOffice bug. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create or edit one or more Writer documents. 2. Close the application. 3. Ramdom empty text files are there in desktop Actual Results: Ramdom empty text files appear in desktop most each time I use LibreOffice Expected Results: No ramdom empty text files appear in desktop after I use LibreOffice Reproducible: Sometimes User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.3.6.2 / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 30(Build:2) CPU threads: 12; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: es-ES (es_ES.UTF-8); UI: es-ES Ubuntu package version: 1:7.3.6-0ubuntu0.22.04.2 Calc: threaded
Make sure you haven't set the "Temporary files" directory set to Desktop, it should be /tmp Also the "My Documents" location shouldn't be Desktop, probably /home/youruser/Documents instead. Both can be set under Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> Paths.
AFAIK LibreOffice has no code to create a .part files. OTOH, FireFox download does create those (mentioned e.g. in bug 135333). On the third side, 7.3 introduced new WebDAV based on libcurl...
Currently, I'm running a fresh install of Xubuntu 22.04 LTS (after that I tried Kubuntu 22.04 too). I didn't change anything on LibreOffice. The OS is configured for Spanish language. The LibreOffice path for Temp files is set up at: /temp. The path for Documents it's: /home/myusername/Documentos. Such files don't appear when I use Firefox, but when I use Writer. If LibreOffice 7.3 includes new WebDAV based on libcurl, perhaps it's it.

It seems that it's not a LibreOffice bug, but a Thunderbird one. If I open an attachment document of an email that I'm redacting, then automatically shows up such empty text files, with the extension of the type of file I opened and ending with ".part". So, if I open a mp4 video file, it appears in the desktop a file like this one: 10v4kMKn.mp4.part or if I open a photo, then it appears in the desktop another empty text file, like this: 2tefkA_u.jpeg.part. As I open often documents while writing an email, then most times it appear files like: LLJ57TEH.odt.part or sb3Flnea.docx.part. But if I open a webpage, then it appears something like: W57aLebY.html.part. And this happens always. So, I'm submitting a bug report to Thunderbird. Thanks.
