Description G 2022-11-11 17:43:10 UTC
Description:
Freezes when switching Documents Windows.
Open Libreoffice, create (or open) a file, then create (or open) another file, when you switch from one document window to the next, after less than 5 seconds later it freezes.
Must Force Quit. After restart "fixes" the files, but you can't have two files open at the same time. It is really bad when you must work with several files open at one time.
Might be 2 empty files or very complex large files, it doesn't matter.
Same happens with Writer.

MacOS M2 Running Ventura
Version:
7.3.7.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build:
Environment.

CPU threads: 8: OS: Mac OS X 13.0
User Interface: Ulrender: default; VCL: os Locale:
en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Ul: en-US
Misc:
Calc: threaded

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Libreoffice
2.Open/Create a file, then open/create another file
3.Switch from one file to the other.
4.Wait a couple of seconds and it Freezes up

Actual Results:
Crash

Expected Results:
Keep working as usual

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
It started happening after a MacOS Update to Ventura, I never had anything like this before.
Now, I have to open one file, work with it, remember what I did, close it, open the related file, "Allow Updating" (it stills loads the stuff from the other file), and keep working after what I did on the other file.
It is Very, Very difficult and time consuming.

It does the same if you do it with writer, just open writer, create a file, then create another empty file, switch windows and it Freezes

Also happened on the previous version 7.3.6
Comment 2 G 2022-11-11 19:47:20 UTC
On MacOS, activated Stage Manager and issue got solved.
There should be a "setting" with MacOS/Libreoffice that needs to be tweaked to work on (normal) MacOS, Without activating Stage Manager.

Without Stage Manager, it Freezes.
With Stage Manager, it Works.

Before, it just worked!

When Stage Manager activated.
Bad window management behavior.
It only switches document windows the first time with "Command+~" (shortcut), then to be able to switch again by shortcut, you have to switch to some other application, and go back to LibreOffice, then, it works once again, and then stops working until you switch to some other application again, and on and on.
You can click to switch windows, but shortcuts doesn't work well.

Issue History:

I am using an iMac M1 with the latest OS update of Ventura. I have a major issue that can not open a file to update and work on. I open the file and nothing happens after that, it just hangs. Furthermore, I have the spinning ball. I can not close it being the file and have to do at a force to quit. I am using the latest version of LibreOffice 7.4.2 I also get a crash report screen as well?
Likewise, I really need to use the files and not have to go back to Microsoft Office junk in order to work.

Does anyone have a clue what is going on so that I can continue to work with LibreOffice, which I support and care about supporting Open Source products.

Thank you someone, so much, for taking the time to assist me.

@G: can you copy the output of the Apple crash report when LibreOffice dies, into a text file and upload the file to this report?

From the description, it sounds a lot like a duplicate of bug 148435
Comment 6 Alex Thurgood 2022-11-15 13:38:49 UTC
We should really set this as NEEDINFO pending receipt of an Apple stacktrace from the OP.
Comment 7 Alex Thurgood 2022-11-15 14:11:08 UTC
See for example DUP bug 151726, which specifically relates to switching contexts using the Apple keyboard shortcut.
Comment 8 G 2022-11-16 20:20:19 UTC
I just tested switching windows thru the Menu-Window, going from one window to another, I can switch as many times as I want. It just keeps working.
But when I tried with the Shortcut "~+Command" it froze after a few seconds.

It could be the same bug as 151726.

LibreOffie error, could be avoided if "Stage Manager" is Activated.
Maybe not the best solution, but at least LibreOffice is usable again.

There is no Crash Report, just the Spinning BeachBall.
Only way to Stop the process is to "Force Quit" LO and restart LO

Please retest with the 7.5 developer preview version available from the LibreOffice download page.

A fix has recently been entered for this problem, which appears to be a duplicate of bug 148435
