Description Eyal Rozenberg 2022-11-14 09:31:59 UTC
Bookmarks are almost invisible in a Writer document... but not quite: There are some gray vertical lines indicating the bookmarked item. See example:

https://extensions.libreoffice.org/en/extensions/show/132

Sometimes you're wondering whether a bookmark should still exist; or you want know what the bookmark name is. But - at the moment, you don't have a way of doing that other than locating it in the Navigator or in the Insert Bookmark dialog.

You should be able to access at least the bookmark name, and perhaps its condition as well, through one or more of the following:

* A right-click context menu on the bookmark indication
* Some widget which becomes visible when hovering over a bookmark
* A right-click context menu on a selection which covers/intersects a bookmark  target
* A right-click context menu on the cursor when at a bookmarked position

Michael, is there any blocker why we do not have a context sensitive bookmark menu?

i imagine it should be possible, with one caveat: there can be an arbitrary number of bookmarks at any given cursor position, both point bookmarks at the position and ranged bookmarks covering the position, so you need to figure which/how many of them should be displayed.

Think we should show one with the current dialog and let users "scroll" through the list. Meaning the context menu shows the bookmark dialog and highlights one of the current items. Or we multi-select all...

Not sure what you mean here... do you mean the context menu would have an entry named "Bookmarks" or "Open Bookmark dialog"?

I'm not sure I like that all that much. For multiple bookmarks on the same spot... eh, maybe, I don't know. But for a single bookmark, I would prefer some dialog for just that bookmark. Yes, a dialog we don't have right now...

However, this suggestion would be better than nothing, so if you prefer a minimum-effort improvement, I guess that could be it.
