I can't reproduce it in

Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

If this is "random" as described, it might just be a problem with the keyboard.

I would suggest testing it in Writer or similar, under different conditions, enough times in order to trigger this "random" behavior.

Is this happening only in Calc? Not even in Writer?

When it happens, is it when building a formula for the first time? Or when editing too? Does it happen when pressing the keys in some empty cell (as when entering simple text, without the formula bar nor using "=")?

FWIW, I tested this under Windows with LO 7.4.5 and LO 7.6alpha+ and no repro, but this report is set for Linux, so.

I have found a way to reproduce systematically the error in Calc with the Spanish keyboard.
For example, in a blank sheet I enter in cells A1 to A3:
A1: a
A2: a^[spc]2
A3: a^[spc]3
and I get the expected result
A1: a
A2: a^2
A3: a^3
However, if I edit the cell A3 and change it to a^4, then when entering in the next cell:
A4: a^[spc]5
the "^" does not appear, and I get instead a blank space:
A4: a 5
and I can no longer obtain a ^ character in any cell by typing "^[spc]".

The way of resetting the "^" character is to delete the contents of the cell (cell selected, bkspc, Delete all).

However, the problem does not appear if I edit the contents of cells in the input line (that is, not in the cell).
