I'm sorry I don't know the right way to describe the problem. My understanding of programming is very limited. When I click on a file, or I use the FILE drop down menu and select RECENT DOCUMENT, the Calc file may open without a name. At first I thought I had somehow saved a file as a template and I was opening it instead of the spreadsheet I was working on. But when I go to save, either clicking the disc icon or use the FILE drop down menu to SAVE or SAVE AS, it brings up a window to save the file as if it's never been saved before. It shows no files in the folder. I type in the name and click save and it asks if I want to overwrite the file (it's not showing.) I overwrite and for the session I can save. It resets when I close the file. I've been using computers, and various office programs, since the 90s. I've seen a lot of errors. As far as I know, I've never seen this one before.
Please copy the info in Menu/Help/About LibreOffice (there is an icon). And explain, if you are using the computer disk or using a network, a temporal folder, or something else.
Please always answer here. I downloaded the 7.4 upgrade off the website to/for a Windows 10 PC. Initiated through the software, I think. So the actual problem is the template I created somehow wound up in a user folder with the name of my spreadsheet and I mistook it for a normal file. When I saved, I was actually overwriting a template even though I was trying to save a file. No clue. I hope I’ve fixed it. The file icon is now normal green instead of gray. Note: Either this is not designed for casual users or it wasn’t thought out. I can barely code a random generator in VB if I’ve got the code basics to work with. I had problems understanding the bug reporting instructions/process. Obviously, I won’t be doing this again. " I don't remember another report or a question in the forum about that issue.
