Bold, etc. are escaped so.

The error is the bad name: this is not a "Style", but a direct formatting.
The feature is present and works in the LO 7.4.4 version. Only the appearance is changed. It must use the drop-down now. There was an always visible, fixed list in the previous versions. In my opinion it is not a bug.
In the LibreOffice: "Style" = a named group of some propeties "Style" = a modifier for character appearacce (bold, italic, ...) It is deceptive to use same name for two different things.
