Description fpecquex 2023-02-12 13:32:31 UTC
Description:
With a new PC build and nVidia RTX (DDR4) video card and M.2 SSD the program starts to become sluggish almost unresponsive to controls especially to scrolling. When this happens I know it is going to crash so I try to save and restart the software. It happens in both writer and calc. Restarting generally works for a little while but it will happen again in a matter of an hour or two. Although today it happened without warning. This is a brand new build with LibreOffice being the only software installed except for drivers. Everything is up to date. I'm sorry I can't be specific because it's no "one thing" that I do that triggers it but my gut tells me that it has something to do with the graphics. It never happens when I just leave the program sit it only happens when I am scrolling, typing, or using the keyboard to navigate the page.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Scroll
2.'Page down'
3. Tab
4. or Type

Actual Results:
Sorry, it is too random however, it Always happens when I am modifying something on the screen or navigating (scrolling or ctrl+ arrow keys). I can leave the program sit of days and it wont crash.

Expected Results:
Most of the time the controls start to become unresponsive and then the program just drops right out with no error messages or un-handled exceptions.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I am just getting to the end of reporting this and NOW I read that I can try resetting my user profile! Not cool.

Anyway, I am going to submit this and then try resetting the default user profile that I was never prompted to set up in the first place. I will report back as to weather it works or not.

Sorry, Almost forgot to mention it. Since I wasn't sure if I was going to like LibreOffice I set the default to save as the standard MSO file extensions (xlsx and docx).

Could you give a try at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Graphics-related_issues_.28_Skia_.29 ?

I did have "UI Render: Skia/Vulkan" in the about help window so I disabled Sika. I will let you know how it turns out.

It seems to have worked. I have used it several times without crashing.

Thank you.

Let's reopen this one.

Could you check you got last graphic driver and if you still got these pbs, would it be possible you locate <user profile>/cache/skia.log, and attach it to the bug report?
Indeed, perhaps we should blacklist the specific card or this version of driver.

Well I don't see the need for Skia, it seems to work fine with it disabled.

However, My Video Card is an ASUS Noctua OC Edition GeFroce RTX-3070 8GB GDDR6 (Sorry, not DDR4 as I stated initially). It is PCI Express 4.0 and is supports DirectX 12 Ultimate and OpenGL 4.6. The Graphics Driver is the latest and is dated 1/18/23.

I could not find any skia.log file in my user profile or any of the hidden folders under it. When I searched the entire HDD for 'skia' I got nothing however, when I searched for 'Vulkan' I found the drivers in the windows system folder. I also found an executive file called vulkaninfo.exe. I can share the output of that file if you would like.

Lastly, just poking around wondering what Vulkan was I found this on Skia website "At this time we find that many Vulkan drivers have bugs that Skia triggers for which we have no workaround. We are reporting bugs to vendors as we find them."

Ok let's put this one to WFM then.
