Description Ruud de Vries 2023-02-14 16:54:46 UTC
Description:
When I open an existing DOC(X) the file association in my Windows 10 (with all & latest updates) will automatically open LibreOffice Writer (current version).
After it's start with the Writer logo and then an empty white window, there is a green line visible below in the further white Writer window, with "loading document" to the left of it. The green line is appr. 80%, the rest is not filled green. Then Writer stops/hangs.
But I see 2 services started, both Word related. These services were not started before the start of Writer.
And after stopping these 2 services, Writer continues, as if nothing is wrong.

Not using hardware acceleration has no effect. This was suggested on the internet.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a docx in Windows.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Writer hangs on opening the docx.
2 Word services are started, (one of) these seems to prevent Writer from opening file/continuing.

Expected Results:
just open Writer with the docx

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Windows 10 version is up to date, Libreoffice version is op to date.
I have not installed MS Office by myself, but Office 365 is present from installation Windows. File associations in Windows seems ok, e.g. docx opens Libreoffice.

What's the name of word services? Do you mean winword.exe?
Comment 2 Ruud de Vries 2023-02-27 08:48:37 UTC
Yes, one of them is Winword.exe. The other one is Artificial Intelligent Host for Windows....
But I think I know the problem. When opening a .docx file, Word detects an error and shows an error message box. But that message box is not always visible. When I close the error message box, the next time opening the same .docx with Writer works fine.
This one is not a bug. Thanks for your time.
