the "insert file" does that...

I mean, it does:

insert "text from document" as a section

but it could be elaborated...
cause for example you can't insert an image...
which is also a "file"
"file" here is ambiguous

So idea would be "change 'file' to 'text file' in insert options"

I agree with it. Let's ask design team

Why do you need a section in a master document?

Heiko, if I understand Peter correct, e searches for a way to insert text from another document in a section and he treid it via navigator (comment 0). then he recognized, that it is possible with "insert file" and he asks to make it more clear, that "insert file" means "insert text from document" (comment 1). It's just about renaming the entry, I think.

apparently it's true and master documents are limited to just text documents. However, renaming "File" to "Text Document" sounds wrong with the "New Document" below. And "Text File" means rather ASCII.

> insert "text from document" as a section
And that is the whole idea of master documents?
Comment 7 Heiko Tietze 2023-03-16 09:05:46 UTC
We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

The idea is to label "Insert" from the popup menu the same as Insert > Text from File... However, the first inserts a document into a section and the other as text. We pondered over naming it "Text Document" (since Insert is the tooltip of the menu button) but this might be confused with ordinary ASCII text. And ultimately any label is not a solution to the program - using master documents require to read the help and to become familiar with the workflow. => NAB
