Description peter josvai 2023-02-16 20:17:03 UTC
Description:
hi,

when editing a MASTER DOCUMENT which has a few SECTIONS (linked documents),
trying to achieve a book-like layout,
having the SECTION TITLE appear in the left footer (or header), and the chapter title (Heading 1, H1) in the right footer (header), using fields...

we bump into a problem...
unlike the "Heading 1", the "Title" does not come from the text...
it comes from the document's inner "Title" property (document properties / Title)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. in a multi-page document, create a Title (give it a Title heading)
2. in the next page create a H1 (heading 1) heading -- "chapter title"
3. insert in the footer a "Title" field

Actual Results:
not the title you've created but very probably the document's template's name!
it is the title that your document has as its "Title" property (document properties / title)

Expected Results:
the Title that you created in the text...
(should appear in the footer's "Title" field)

Reproducible: Always

Please add a little example, which could help to reproduce the behavior you reported.
Comment 2 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2023-03-05 10:26:10 UTC
To reference the title, you can select it, got to Insert > Cross-reference > Set reference > give it a name in the "Name" field > Insert. The title field is now shaded in grey, and can be cross-referenced wherever you want in Insert > Cross-reference > Insert reference.

Does that cover what you need? Having a way to reference the Title from the document properties is important and shouldn't be replaced, in my opinion.
