Hi Brian

- Does the icon theme change when you switch between dark and light mode?
- Can you please paste here the info copied from Help > About LibreOffice ?

Thank you!

No, the icon theme remains at Automatic (Elementary) whichever mode is selected.

Here is the Help/About info:

Hope this helps,

Brian.

Thanks Brian.

I can reproduce the icon issue on Ubuntu 20.04 with GNOME 3.36.8but only with alternative UIs:
- Tabbed
- Tabbed Compact
- Groupedbar Compact
- Contextual Single

But it does switch the icon theme when using "Standard Toolbar", "Single Toolbar" and "Sidebar".
Do you see the same?

I have previously reported in bug 153618 that the icon theme does not change to one suitable to dark mode when GNOME is in dark mode. (i.e. in Automatic mode)

Regarding the background colour of the UI, I can't make it overwrite the default dark colours that the desktop environment uses. Using "Light" in View Mode keeps the dark grey theme.

Which desktop environment are you using, Brian?

Caolán, do you also see these three issues?
- Icon switch failing for alternative UIs
- LO's Light view mode does not overwrite GNOME's UI
- Icon switch failing on Automatic mode (bug 153618)

No, none of them. I have a vague memory of getting weirdness after logging out of the default Fedora gnome desktop and trying various other ones like KDE and Mate etc that eventually something got set into some unusual state.

Perhaps, if its available, launch gnome-tweaks and report what Appearance, Legacy Applications (in my version of gnome-tweaks-42~beta that's what its called, that might vary) reports. In my case its "Adwaita (default)"

Thanks, I just had a look and I apparently have Yaru-dark. Switching the Window theme in GNOME settings > Appearance will use Yaru-light, Yaru and Yaru-dark.

If I use Adwaita-dark instead in GNOME Tweaks, I get:
- Icon switch failing for alternative UIs -> Fixed
- LO's Light view mode does not overwrite GNOME's UI -> Still reproduced
- Icon switch failing on System view mode (bug 153618) -> Still reproduced

I am using Wayland, might have something to do with it.

Apologies. Alternative UIs are in top-bar menu, View > User Interface.
Please also let us know what appearance setting you are using in the Cinnamon settings (i.e. which dark theme, if there are several available.)

Thanks for the guidance. I have now tried all interfaces. Nothing changes whichever UI I use.

Let's keep all icon-switch issues in bug 127138 and focus here on the rest of the UI remaining dark when "Light" is selected.

Still the same for me in recent master build:

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: eef0c5d4d45ba35acfb6d8f7551fe565ca4badaa
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Starting with GNOME's "dark" appearance, changing LO to "Light" does not change anything.

Wasn't this just implemented only in June this year in Cinnamon? https://9to5linux.com/cinnamon-5-8-desktop-released-with-gestures-dark-mode-styles-and-more

If this issue is about Cinnamon, then it sounds like it could be closed.

(gtk3 VCL plugin used in both scenarios.)

Same with X11 or Wayland, on Ubuntu 22.04 + GNOME 42.9, with a recent trunk build:

Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 1344e6261a1d856c71eca1e0cc29215a586bf335

The new UNO command only changes the Application Colors scheme for me (i.e. changes between a black and light document background), _when the system's mode is Dark_. It does not change the UI view mode.
It works as expected if the system is in Light mode, just like in Options > LibreOffice > View.

This makes LO unusable in Linux Mint, when detals are not seen in dark mode.
For example, I cannot see dark blue styles in the sidebar.
Deleting usr folder did not help. I think this desrevers High-Major.
