Description Andy 2023-02-28 09:59:27 UTC
Description:
Create a 16:9 presentation document, change the background to black (or any other color different from white), then start full screen presentation on a PC with a 1980x1020 screen. On the lower edge and on the right edge you will see a white line of pixel that were not intended to be there, as the full screen should be black (or the other color you chose as background).
This is a regression: I did the same thing on LO 6.1 and did not experience the problem.
No fiddling with options regarding Skia or hardware acceleration for rendering appears to change this behaviour.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a 16:9 presentation document, change the background to black (or any other color different from white), then start full screen presentation on a PC with a 1980x1020 screen.
2.On the lower edge and on the right edge you will see a white line of pixel that were not intended to be there, as the full screen should be black (or the other color you chose as background).
3.Please compare the two attached screen capture (made with LO7.1.5 and LO 6.1) to check the nature of the malfunction and its nature of regression.

Actual Results:
The full screen presentation with color background has a white edge on the lower-right side.
The only workaround I found is to create a rectangle object of the desired color, make it somewhat bigger than the screen size (the default 16:9 screen is 28*15.75 cm, so make it 28,1*15.81)and place it behind any other object with the upper left corner at (0;0) position. This way the object goes beyond the page limits on the lower and right sides, and when you start the full screen presentation this hides the unwanted white lines. Quinte awkward indeed.

Expected Results:
The full screen presentation should be fully black or whatever color you chose

Reproducible: Always

I can't reproduce.

Are you sure it is not an issue with your monitor configuration?

I ha ve now conducted a thorough test, the results are shown in the new attach where you can see the lower right corner of the screen enlarged to 600% zoom in the 3 modes:
- with LO 6.1;
- with LO 7.5.1 with neither Skia nor Hardware accel;
- with LO 7.5.1 with Skia or hardware accel activated.
As you can see the problem is there but almost unnoticeable - and only on the right edge - in LO 6.1; it is more visible with LO7.5 without skia or HW accel, and becomes even more clear and annoying with Skia or HW accel.

I also loaded the same file in Powerpoint, the last attach shows the result of the full screen presentation with it, that has none of the problems above.

If this is the case it is clear that the issue is linked to some device and its software (or hardware). I will check what happens on some other PCs in the next few days and get back in touch with the results.

Can't reproduce either with:

Version: 7.6.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d887b6a6fa2a572f48498839c5a68791c3196634

Nor on Linux.

Please let us know what comes out of your further tests, Andy.
Please also test with Help > Restart in Safe Mode.

Thank you!

There are other similar reports, I think we can probably mark this as a duplicate of bug 70976, which is about coloured backgrounds.
As your screenshots show, the issue was already there in 6.1, just maybe less noticeable.

Another related report is bug 55134, which uses an image fill instead.

What do you think, Andy and Miguel Ángel?

I have checked the other two bugs, they look in fact like duplicates of this one. Those show that the issue is not solely linked to my own hardware.
However, I have tried the same on my old Toshiba 16 inch notebook of some years ago running on Windows 7, and the problem is not there.
So it is true: your mileage may vary depending on the hardware you are using...
