Every time I try to open a Word or Excel file from, say, an email, when I already have another office file open, LibreOffice does nothing until I close the other documents. Only then, it does launch the file, but first, it presents me with a message offering to “recover the state of the files” I was working on before the crash. But there was no crash at all, I just had some documents open and then closed them. I am forced to "Discard All", then say I'm sure, then sometimes confirm again and sometimes not (IIRC) before the file I wanted to open actually opens. (Yes, I have associated LO with MS Office files. People send me MS Office files through email. But the files I am usually working on are native LO Calc files.)
Thank you for the report. - Which email client are you using? - Does this happen when opening files from the file browser too, or other apps? - Please also test the updated version 7.5.1.2 to see if you can still reproduce.
I am using the 7.5.1.2 version now, and it keeps happening. The email client I am using is Betterbird, which is a fork of Thunderbird. The issue also exists when opening a file I downloaded in the browser, through the browser interface. (I am using the Opera browser.) It doesn't happen when double clicking on Office files in the desktop or file browser (either Windows Explorer or XYplorer). Also, I'd like to clarify that this doesn't happen only when I try to open MS Office files, which my original post might imply. It happens with .odt and .ods files too.
[Automated Action] NeedInfo-To-Unconfirmed
I see this has been marked as unconfirmed with no additional comment. But it still happens in my computer. Are there any steps I can take in order to make this bug more evident so that it can be confirmed? It's pretty shocking from the perspective of a naïve user who finds out they can't open a document they've been sent by email.
I could not reproduce on Ubuntu 20.04 with Thunderbird and: Version: 7.5.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: fcbaee479e84c6cd81291587d2ee68cba099e129 CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded I couldn't reproduce on Windows 10 either: Version: 7.5.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: fcbaee479e84c6cd81291587d2ee68cba099e129 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win Locale: en-GB (en_GB); UI: en-GB Calc: threaded I tested opening the file both from Thunderbird and Firefox. "Unconfirmed" is the default state of reports until another person is able to confirm the issue. Let's see if someone else can reproduce the same problem (or if you can provide more information to help us pinpoint the issue).
No issue with: Version: 7.5.2.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: e8bf3b441b8370f8440b0339fd9490765a8d57ca CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: es-ES (es_ES); UI: en-US Calc: CL threaded and Betterbird 102.9.0-bb31 (14 March 2023) second file from Betterbird is opened.
What if you reset the user profile: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, starting with a fresh profile by renaming the "user" folder as per the instructions did not solve the problem.
Does it happen opening files in other folders?
