Description mikemckibbin 2023-03-02 18:07:06 UTC
Description:
For the last several days, when I start spellchecker in a Writer document, it stops after checking a few, sometimes several, words. The bottom half of the spellcheck screen goes dark and when I click on the "Correct" or "Correct All" buttons nothing happens. This same issue occurs when I spell-check a Calc spreadsheet. I also can't close spellcheck and it eventually crashes LO.

I use a Dell laptop with Windows 11, everything is updated. I’ve checked some of the other questions related to spell check but nothing seems to work. I even uninstalled and reinstalled LO and changed my user profile using the “.old” process. I also had the same issue in safe mode.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create or open Writer document.
2. Run spellcheck. It stops working after checking anywhere from 3-4 words, sometimes more.

Actual Results:
Spellcheck stopped working and would not close. LO crashed.

Expected Results:
Spell check correctly works throughout the entire document and does not cause LO to crash.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Thank you for the report.
Can you please install version 7.5.1 and see if it is fixed? Sounds like the already-fixed bug 152738.

As of Thursday, March 2, version 7.5.1 still had this issue with the spellchecker. I downloaded version 7.4.5.1 and it has worked fine. I use LO professionally and must do quite a bit of customization every time I uninstall and reinstall LO so I do not want to do so again until some time has passed and this issue is addressed. I would think the already-fixed bug occurred before I started experiencing this issue.

Thanks for testing, Mike.
Seeing that we also have bug 153628, it might be that the issue was not completely resolved in some cases.

Still, I haven't been able to reproduce your issue with:

Thanks Mike, I can actually reproduce with the following steps:

1. Open document
2. Start spellcheck (F7), language is English (USA) (I have the green tick)
3. Click "Ignore Once" for "outdented", it ignores successfully. Also click "Ignore once" for "Gravatar".

Result: stuck in an "Ignore once" -> "Resume" loop.

Issue is inconsistent. Other behaviours witnessed:
- Dialog reports that spellcheck is completed even though many more words remain underlined as misspelled
- Spellcheck goes through the whole process without any issue. I can't figure out why I can't reliably reproduce.
