Description firefox.undersign 2023-03-30 14:28:03 UTC
Description:
When I write a document and use the "attach to an email" button, the email (thunderbird) opens a new mail, but the document isn't attached to it. In the previous version of LibreOffice, this button worked correctly.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Write any document
2. Hit the "Attach to an email" button
3. The opened email doesn't have the document attached...

Actual Results:
The document isn't attached to the email.

Expected Results:
The document should be attached to the email, like with the previous versions of LibreOffice.

Can't reproduce with:

Version: 7.6.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community

* Can you try running your LibreOffice and Thunderbird from the console? Maybe you'll get some warning/error message.
* Can you try also with a newer version?
* Does this happen to you only with document which have been saved, only docs which have not been saved, or both?

So please try to answer those questions. Does it also happen in SafeMode (Help -> Restart in Safe Mode)?

Sorry for my late answer.
It happens if I try to attach saved or unsaved documents. Neither one is attached.
I tried also to send e-mails from writer via the menu "Datei - Senden - Dokument als E-Mail" (as well as OpenDokument-Text als E-Mail and PDF als E-Mail), this opens as well a new mail in Thunderbird, but doesn't attach the document.

It happens as well in the safe mode (but there is no "send as e-mail button", so I tried the menu from above, with didn't work either).

What is the command to start Writer from the console?

I'll try to upgrade to a newer version later this weekend.

Thanks for your concern!

Can't confirm with

Version: 7.6.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 1e9f4de320f67d1218c710bcee1969a2324c6888
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (de_DE); UI: en-GB
Calc: CL threaded

Only problem I can see is, that mail program (thunderbird) opend in background, but that might be a different problem.

Firefox.undersign, coud you test with actual version?

I've finally found the time to upgrade Libreoffice to Version: 7.5.2.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 50(Build:2)
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: fr-FR (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: de-DE
Ubuntu package version: 4:7.5.2~rc2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1~lo1
Calc: threaded

Thunderbird is Version 102.10.0 (64-Bit).

The problem still persists. If I use either the e-mail button or the send dialog, the document isn't attached to the e-mail.

When I start Libreoffice from the terminal (I finally found the command), I have the following error:

$ soffice
error
xsltParseStylesheetFile : cannot parse
I/O warning : failed to load external entity ""
error
xsltParseStylesheetFile : cannot parse
error
xsltParseStylesheetFile : cannot parse
I/O warning : failed to load external entity ""
error
xsltParseStylesheetFile : cannot parse

(soffice:27846): Gdk-WARNING **: 10:37:21.442: XSetErrorHandler() called with a GDK error trap pushed. Don't do that.

Thanks for your concerns!

Tested with Thunderbird 102.10.0 (64-bit), Ubuntu 20.04 with GNOME 3.36.8 and:

Version: 7.5.3.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d29ee673721b12c92b3de9b9663473211414f0db
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

and it worked fine, Thunderbird composer opened, document was attached to email.

Which desktop environment and distribution are you using?
Do you have anything in Tools > Options > Internet > Email > Email program? If so, please leave blank and test again.
Thank you.

@stragu

I have Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon.

In the mentioned field, I found "sensible-lomua" written. So I deleted it and let it blank. Then I closed LibreOffice, reopened it and tried to attach a document the same way to an e-mail. Result: Documents are still not attached to the e-mail.

So I tried to give an input ("thunderbird") in this field, this doesn't work at all (no e-mail opened).

Any hints how to progress further?
Merci beaucoup !

Are you using the flatpak version of LibreOffice ? If so, this is the same issue as bug 154241.

Hi Stéphane,
no, I use the normal ubuntu version, as you can see in my posts above. I added again the info.
The bug is still alive!

Thank you, merci beaucoup !

Thanks for the info.

This makes it sound like an xdg-utils issue, related to a security fix: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=336053

So check that you have all your Mint packages updated, and let us know which version of the xdg-utils you have installed.

Similar issue in bug 75825, also on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1217191

You can put "sensible-lomua" back into the settings field, given that it worked for finding the email client (i.e. opening the email composer).
You can also try "/usr/bin/thunderbird" in that field just in case, but I'm not too hopeful.

I'm marking as a duplicate of bug 116211, because the issue is a lot better covered there, and various people have reported it for Thunderbird too.

Hi @stragu,

my xdg-utils version is 1.1.3-4.1ubuntu3~22.04.1 (the newest available). All my mint packages are up-to-date.

I read all the threads you posted, thank you. But I didn't really find a good solution for me. Should I rollback the xdg-utils? I don't like to play around with this stuff, especially if I don't know how to revert back to original...

Well, for the moment I still attach it manually. Annoying, but better than windows!

Thanks for you help!
