Description internet657-84eddea134 2023-04-03 13:40:25 UTC
Description:
I frequently have to switch between normal text and math formulas in my document. When scrolling through the available symbols when writing a formula, or even when just creating one, LibreOffice sometimes unexpectedly crashes.
I use the shortcuts a lot.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new formula (Alt+Shift+E).
2. Write the formula by scrolling through the available symbols.
3. Press Escape twice to resume to normal text mode.

Actual Results:
Often crashes at step 1, 2 or 3.

Expected Results:
Not crash!

Reproducible: Sometimes

I generally write formulas within tables.

The scrolling crash could be related to bug 154016.

Any chance you could provide more precise steps to make it crash?
Does it happen even with a brand new document?

Thank you.

I think the scrolling is entirely unrelated to the problem and the fact it sometimes crashes while I am scrolling is coincidental.
It happens with brand new documents yes. I’ve had the exact same issue with two different computers, both running Windows 10.

I cannot provide more precise steps. LibreOffice just crashes often when I create a formula, modify or exit it.

If you get a crash reporter message afterwards or when restarting, please submit it and share the link it gives you. That would help a lot in pinpointing the issue.
Please also check if the issue is reproducible while in Safe Mode (Help > Restart in Safe Mode > Continue in safe mode).

Here is a link to one of today’s crashes: https://crashreport.libreoffice.org/stats/crash_details/2861cfe3-7bbe-44ff-9134-7a29b4bcb7c9

It also happens on Safe Mode.

I suspected it had something to do with the custom keyboard layout I was using (bépo-azerty), but this crash occured while I was using the standard azerty layout.

Thank you for the crash report.
I think that turning Skia off in "Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View" will help, seeing the crash signature.
Could you please see if that stops it from crashing?

You can also share the contents of the Skia log, which should be in AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\cache\Skia.log

I deactivated Skia, but the crashes still occur.
I did not see any Skia log in the mentionned folder, but that might be because I turned it off.
I also tried deactivating hardware acceleration without any effect.
Here is the link to the crash report when Skia isn’t activated: https://crashreport.libreoffice.org/stats/crash_details/0d073145-c065-46c7-9fc7-05ab37bc4543.

Thank you for testing. That's the same signature that comes up in bug 154016, so your crashes might have various causes.

Let's keep these two reports open and linked.

Bug 154016 was fixed yesterday. You can try with an unstable build, Win-x86_64@tb77-TDF from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html
It installs separately.

I’ve installed the dev version, but can’t seem to get it working. When I try to start soffice.exe, soffice_safe.exe or swriter.exe from the "program" folder, Windows tell me that this app cannot run on my PC, without more details. I’ve tried with some compatibility parameters without any effect.

Also, it *seems* to me that crashes are less frequent when I hide the "elements" panel. They do still happen though.
