UPDATE: I tested on my laptop (Ryzen 5500u - same Linux Mint 21.1) and it worked fine. So I went back to my desktop (Ryzen 5800X3D + Radeon 5600XT + Linux Mint 21.1) I tried to install latest kernel (6.10) using mainline tool. The problem remained. Last resort was to try to update my mesa drivers using oibaf ppa (I use linux mint) So, up to now I was using mesa drivers *Mesa 23.0.0*-devel (git-64d584b 2022-12-05 jammy-oibaf-ppa). Had to updated them some months ago to resolve a graphical glitch with my desktop. I made a timeshift snapshot (mesa updates can be messy) and updated my mesa drivers to latest version *Mesa 23.1.0*-devel (git-4ac56e3 2023-04-09 jammy-oibaf-ppa). THAT WAS IT! Now all the transition effects work perfectly without crashing my system. So the problem was a combination of my GPU (Radeon 5600XT) + mesa drivers.
Thank you for testing further and reporting back. Glad the issue is fixed!
