Description: Most current update will not "read" EXEC files; last version read and allowed me to save the file in a MS Word format. I have several examples of EXEC documents that were "read" by an earlier version of LibreOffice that I successfully saved as a Word doc. When I tried to open the same EXEC doc today with the most current version (7.5.2.2) I received error messages (see attachments) Help! Steps to Reproduce: 1. Launch Libre office 2. File>Open document 3. Error message (see photos) Actual Results: Error message Expected Results: Opened the EXEC file to a readable format so I could save it. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: see attached screenshot (there was no "Help - About LibreOffice") option.
Created attachment 186585 [details] Example from my computer of a document I'm trying to "read" using LibreOffice I wanted to attach several screenshots, but it looks like I can only attach one image. I'm happy to send the additional screenshots if you can provide an email address. 1. Screenshot of attempt to open a EXEC file on my computer using LibreOffice. 2. Error message about "repair" 3. Error message about repair fail. Thanks, Lysa

Thanks, Lysa
It's quite expected LO doesn't open an executable file. Executable file are runned directly by OS (Windows, macOS, Linux) Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, would it be possible you attach the EXEC file?
Created attachment 186630 [details] EXEC file example 1 I've attached examples of EXEC files per your request. I have used LibreOffice for the last 5 years (at least!) to open this kind of file to view the contents. For example most of these files are from my father's old computer and he used ClarisWorks for almost everything; so I used LibreOffice to read them. This problem occurred after I updated my LibreOffice software earlier this week. Thanks!

Created attachment 186639 [details] EXEC file example 1 renamed into "file1.doc" On pc Debian x86-64 with LO Debian package 7.4.5.1 or with master sources updated today, I could open the EXEC file. Perhaps it may help to rename it a bit, I called it "file1.doc".
Created attachment 186640 [details] EXEC file example 1 renamed into "file2.cwk" On pc Debian x86-64 with LO Debian package 7.4.5.1 or with master sources updated today, I could open the EXEC file. Perhaps it may help to rename it a bit, I called it "file2.cwk". Both files contain the same thing: "Please Join Us In Celebrating the Life of etc..."
First file is a Microsoft Word file with former native format "doc". ("former" because the recent one is "docx"). Second file is Apple Works/Claris Works extension (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AppleWorks). Do you still reproduce this after the renaming? BTW, what's your precise version of macOS ? Also, just in case, could you rename your LO directory profile? (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Corrupted_user_profile) and give a new try?
Comment on attachment 186640 [details] EXEC file example 1 renamed into "file2.cwk" well yay! I changed the extension to .cwk and it immediately opens in LO. It's magic! How does this work? Is it just that LO doesn't "know" what it's looking at?
Comment on attachment 186639 [details] EXEC file example 1 renamed into "file1.doc" Renaming to .docx didn't work. I received these two alert messages (attached). The .cwk worked great. It wasn't clear to me how to rename my LO directory profile. My Mac OS is 13.3.1 (22E261) Any thoughts on why I was able to open these types of files without adding the .cwk on previous versions of your app? Thanks - Lysa

I suppose LO uses the extension to identify the type of file.

(In reply to Lysa from comment #19) > Created attachment 186692 [details] > MS word error message when "yes" selected Looking at your 2 screenshots, it seems you don't use LibreOffice but Microsoft Office since there's "Word".
