Description Telesto 2023-04-18 18:57:31 UTC
Description:
UI: insert caption dialog settings & workflow

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the attached file
2. Right Click the Blue rectangle
3. Select Insert Caption
4. Type a caption name: Foo
5. Change the Numbering to 'A B C'
6. Press OK
7. Make up your mind. You want to change it back to Arabic numbering (1, 2, 3). You can't re-access the caption frame window

8. Right Click the Red rectangle
9. Select Insert Caption
10. Type a caption name: Bar
11. Notice the Numbering being set to 'A B C'
12. Change it to Arabic numbering (1, 2, 3)
13. Press OK

Notice the numbering of the Blue rectangle being changed.

The dialog suggests the setting being configured for each figure individually. However it's actually a global setting

14. Right Click the Purple rectangle (image)
15. Click Insert Caption
16. Change the category to 'Drawing'
16. Notice (and click ) the Auto...
17. Check Writer Images
18. Notice the default Caption category -> 'Figure'
19. Press OK (nothing happens)
20. Type a caption 'Hello'
21. Press OK.. Caption will be 'Drawing 1'

The big question. Why is the auto-caption button in the caption dialog. I would assume it would be managed from Tools -> Options -> Writer -> Autocaption (or some less buried item in the menu). However the button in the caption dialog is hard to access (which related to step 7)

Actual Results:
The workflow is particular.

Expected Results:
* Does the auto-caption dialog belong in the 'Add caption' dialog?
* Should it be possible to re-access the caption dialog to modify settings?
* Why are the configuration settings (numbering type) for a caption frame offered prominently on each insertion. Whereas it appears to be some sort of style setting applied to all other previously inserted captions

Reproducible: Always

@Eyal/Heiko
Not a straight forward this a is the problem report, sorry. However the insert caption dialog /workflow smells a bit fishy to me. There are some oddity's, which seem of to me.

Looks like a dupe of 153248, feel free to reopen if you believe differently, but then please explain the difference better.
