Description thedeadlysarcasm 2023-04-20 13:14:43 UTC
Description:
Spell check stopped working correctly in version 7.5.2.2, wherehas it used to work before. Issue is the same as Bug 153498, which I had reported some time ago and had been resolved (as a duplicate of bug 152738).

I have noticed that this issue began after I tried to spell-check a document containing text which I'd copy-pasted from the web version of Google Keep (which I will attach).

When working on a document and trying to spell-check it, it runs through the document as expected, until it reaches a specific paragraph; after that point, it stops working entirely, the only possible choices being "correct" and "correct all" or exiting the spell checker entirely, despite no incorrect word being highlighted. The language is still displayed as "English (UK)", but exiting the spell checker and starting it back up again, it displays "[none]" as language.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open document
2. Run spell check
3. Continue through spell check until a specific paragraph

Actual Results:
Spell check stops working.

Expected Results:
Spell check proceeds as normal.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Version: 7.5.2.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 53bb9681a964705cf672590721dbc85eb4d0c3a2
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: it-IT (it_IT); UI: it-IT

Note: spell check language is en-UK.

I have tried to solve this issue by uninstalling LibreOffice entirely and working on a fresh install, also deleting my user profile, to no result.

Test document

Test document containing text copy-pasted from Google Keep; running spell-check on this document caused the issue to manifest.

I couldn't reproduce with 7.5.3.1.
Inserted typos in the example document does detect errors and I can run the spell check tool and fix or ignore mistakes.

A couple of spellcheck issues have been fixed for 7.5.3: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/buglist.cgi?list_id=1588677&query_format=advanced&resolution=---&resolution=FIXED&resolution=INVALID&resolution=WONTFIX&resolution=DUPLICATE&resolution=WORKSFORME&resolution=MOVED&resolution=NOTABUG&resolution=NOTOURBUG&resolution=INSUFFICIENTDATA&short_desc=spell&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=target%3A7.5.3&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr

Could you please test this version and let us know if it solves it?
There a link for 7.5.3 pre-release at the bottom of the page: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/

Thank you

Unfortunately this came at a bad time, since I'm currently flying out to go on vacation and I won't have my PC with me. I'll test the build you posted asap, which will be on the 26th. Sorry for the delay.

No problem. Setting back to "needinfo" until you have tested and reported.
Comment 6 thedeadlysarcasm 2023-04-26 06:22:11 UTC
Tested version 7.5.3.1, bug is no longer present.

Version: 7.5.3.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d29ee673721b12c92b3de9b9663473211414f0db
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: it-IT (it_IT); UI: it-IT
Calc: threaded

While testing I noticed a minor UI bug, which doesn't break spellcheck functioning; I'll check to see if it has been filed elsewhere, and I'll report it if not.

Many thanks.

Great, thank you for testing and reporting back!
Closing as "works for me", I assume it's one of the two fixes in comment 2.
