The "Extended Selection" mode allows one to avoid having to keep the mouse pressed and drag all the way to the end of the selection. Instead, the selection extends itself and one simply has to get to the endpoint of the selection. ... except that it's not so simple. If your selection ends in a few paragraphs or a page away, then - fine, not a big deal. But what if your selection is 100 pages away? Or you don't know where it is, but it has a bookmark? In those cases you are likely to want to use the Navigator to get to where the selection ends. Unfortunately, clicking a Navigator entity (e.g. a Bookmark, but not just) - reverts the selection mode to Standard, so that when you arrive - nothing is selected. This is not a good idea. Let the use decide when they want to quit Extended Selection mode, unless it's very obvious that they do.
Hello Eyal Rozenberg, Thank you for reporting the bug. Unfortunately without clear steps to reproduce it, we cannot track down the origin of the problem. Please provide a clearer set of step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce the problem. I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' once the steps are provided

Diana, I'm complaining about the intended behavior, not about some uncommon scenario. Be in Extended Selection mode and click an item in the navigator - you'll see the selection mode revert to the standard mode.

Be in Extended Selection mode and click an item in the navigator - > you'll see the selection mode revert to the standard mode. You didn't explain how to change to Extending Selection mode, though, so your steps were lacking. Steps: 1. Add two paragraphs and change one of them to Heading 1 by pressing Ctrl-1 2. Hover over the status bar at the bottom in Writer until you see the tooltip "Standard Selection etc." Right-click on it and select Extending Selection 3. In the Navigator sidebar deck, double-click the heading item I reproduce the issue. The request seems logical enough that I won't bother the UX team. If we're in this special selection mode, we want to do special things, so it should not be dropped. Dear Eyal Rozenberg, To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! Warm Regards, QA Team MassPing-UntouchedBug
