Description pbatty 2023-05-08 11:17:41 UTC
Description:
Minor visual issues with Calc sheets depending on which mode (Light or Dark) you are using.

When using light mode and selecting a cell which includes information the display in the input line is very difficult to see as the text is white on a light grey background. Plus the selected cell has a relatively easy to see grey highlight around its perimeter.

The opposite happens in dark mode when selecting a cell which includes information the display in the input line is very easy to see as the text is light grey on a black background. However, the selected cell does not really have a clear highlight around its perimeter, all it does is make the grid lines vanish, being white on a white background. But in addition the row number and column letters vanish!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just use calc with a cell selected that has data in.
2. Now swop between Light mode to Dark mode to see text vanish in the input line.
3. You will also notice that if you try to rename a sheet in one mode or the other the input dialogue box maybe difficult to see depending on which mode you are in!

Actual Results:
1. Just use calc with a cell selected that has data in.
2. Now swop between Light mode to Dark mode to see text vanish in the input line.
3. You will also notice that if you try to rename a sheet in one mode or the other the input dialogue box maybe difficult to see depending on which mode you are in!

Expected Results:
N/A

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
It is a minor niggle which could be probably sorted out by changing the colour of the active cell border selection to red for both light and dark modes. In addition probably make the software display a 18% grey for the input line and the active cell/s background so that both white and grey text are easily visible.

Side by side comparison of Light & Dark mode visual issues

It is easier to show the issues with a picture than with words.

Please test the modifying the options:
Menu/Tools/LibreOffice/Accessibility/Options for high contrast appearance.

High contrast appearance option still has issues.

When selecting cells with data it would be nice to get a more clear visual indication of the selected cell within the spread sheet in addition being able to see the text of the input line.

Do you have selected in
Menu/Tools/LibreOffice/Application colors/Color Scheme
the same as the OS (light/dark).

Colour scheme settings

Libra Office General View setting id set to system. But the software is set to use the default look and not use themes. The application colour scheme is set to LibreOffice. Hope this images explain the issue rather than words.

If the interface uses a 'selection highlight' which is light or white, then the text should flip to be dark (or black) and not white, so it is still readable!

Let's see if someone with Mac can test the issue.

I am on an Apple Max Studio. Apple silicon. Thought the screen grabs would show that.

pbatty, are you using the Graphite highlight in your macOS settings? If so, we have bug 154624.
