Description dmforlinux 2023-07-24 17:26:42 UTC
Description:
I have a System 76 Kudu laptop with 16GB of ram and a 1TB hard drive. I use both the Mate desktop and the XFCE desktop. When I am using the Mate desktop environment Libre Office either fails to open or takes so long to open that I try overclicking to force it to open. When I use the XFCE desktop environment there is no delay in opening a document. I also have Toshiba Satellite L855D-S5117 with 8GB of ram and 300GB hard drive and a Lenovo ThinkCenter with 16Gb of ram and a 500GB hard drive small frame factor desktop. The problem with loading Libre Office is identical with all 3 computers. I prefer the Mate desktop environment but I am forced to use the XFCE desktop environment due to the failure of Libre Office to open or to take an e x t r e m e l y l o n g t i m e to load. This issue occurs With all components of Libre Office. With Writer, Calc, Draw, Impress, etc.

Actual Results:
The results are that when I use thew Mate desktop I can not get Libre office to open or it takes E X T R E M E L Y E X C E SS I V E A M O U N T O F T I M E T O O P E N

Do you still reproduce the issue in a currently supported version like 7.5 or 7.6? LO 7.3 won't see further bugfix releases.

Please let us know how you go, and if you can still reproduced, make sure you share all the info from Help > About LibreOffice.
Thank you.

Well I no longer have the problem since I erased my hard drive and installed Linspire instead of Linux Mint. The problem seems to be with Linux Mint. I'm sure it is still a problem for people who use Linux Mint but I have resolved the problem for me at least. I attribute the problem to flatpack and snap. I have neither of those, so far, with Linspire and I am happy with that. I hope I never have any flatpacks or snap to deal with ever again.

OK, let's close as "works for me". Thanks for reporting back.
