Description: Hello, Creating or resuming documents that have always been saved in the 97-2003 file format no longer works. For example, a 19 MB file already saved using Libre Office Writer is lost when saved. A subsequent view of the file in Windows Explorer enables the same file to be found for 80 KB. However, when this document is entered, no alert is displayed to indicate that there is a problem. Note also 1 - that Libre Office Writer crashes several times, and that recoveries of files that have become faulty are error-prone 2 - that trying to save in ODF format crashes systematically. To find a solution I have uninstalled Libre Office several times, I have also reinstalled older versions but I can't find a solution - Thank you in advance for helping me - Sincerely Steps to Reproduce: 1.open a previously saved file in différent name 2.seamless data entry and saving in Word 97-2003 format, with no fault warnings 3.save in error and unable to open saved document The steps to reproduce the error are as simple as : Step 1: open an existing file Step 2 and then complete it Step 3 and save it Actual Results: The 19 MB file is saved for 80 KB and is no longer recognized. A blocking message indicates the comment "Reading error. This file is not a valid WinWord97 file. Expected Results: It should have worked normally and saved the original 19 MB file in a larger size. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes Additional Info: This situation remains inexplicable, which is why I am calling on your expertise to find a solution - Thank you in advance for your help. PS : failure mode does not solve the problem
Without the original 19MB file, it's difficult to help. If there's something confidential and/or private in it, you can try to sanitize it (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bugzilla/Sanitizing_Files_Before_Submission) but it would require Microsoft Word since LO generates a corrupted file.

Votre message n'est pas parvenu à bugzilla-daemon@bugs.documentfoundation.org, car l'adresse est introuvable ou ne peut pas recevoir de messages. copy my mail : Hello Julien Nabet, First and foremost, many thanks for your reply. I'm grateful for your attention to my request for help, and I'm sending you some files and screenshots. I would like to add that following this problem I have just realized that the xls files saved in the calc application have the same problem. Thank you also for alerting me to the confidentiality of the documents I'm sending you, and the file sent concerns an accounting training course which can be read by anyone Best regards - Thanks again in advance

Created attachment 188597 [details] DM - 803 - Sceance2 with odt format ( Here's the DM - 803 - Sceance2.doc converted into odt format with LO 7.4.7.2 on pc Debian x86-64. I could reopen the odt file but I must recognize I didn't compare both versions to see if they were identical. First and second attachements ("Reply 1" and "Reply 2" are identical, it's a 76kb doc file which seems corrupted). About the 19MB file, you can follow this link: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bugzilla/Attachments.
Created attachment 188600 [details] Reply - to your second e-mail Hello, I don't understand what you're doing: the 76 Kb file (despite being duplicated - my apologies) is the result of saving the correct file, i.e. post-saving corruption. For the moment, I have no clue as to how to understand or solve my problem Libre Office destroys my original files as soon as I save them in Word 97-2003 format, reducing their size from several MB to a few KB, and does not accept that I use Libre Office's own ODT format. The files and screenshots I've sent you are in response to your request. This is a new situation ... I've been using your application for several years now. I've just tried it out on an old computer running Windows 7 and Word 97-2003, and the files are visible, editable and can be saved without fail. My problem remains unsolved ! Can you please help me - thanks in advance
1) we need the ORIGINAL file which is 19MB sanitized if needed and the step by step process to reproduce the pb. 2) the 76kb file you attached twice is corrupted, ok, nothing can't be done on it, it's useless. 3) you attached a doc file (the reply 3) for a reason I ignore. So I just converted it into odt to show you at least this one is ok Is it more clear?
Created attachment 188604 [details] Reply - to your third e-mail Good evening, 1 - To come back to you, the only thing to remember is that for any file, as soon as the "save" function is executed, the file is damaged by Libre Office Writer. 2 - The 19 MB file will be copyrighted and is therefore confidential. 3 - In my comments, I'd like to add that I've sent you another file that I didn't save initially, and a copy that I re-read and saved with a corrupted result - see Attachments "Reply 3 - to your e-mail". - 188591 - I admit I don't know what to do, I've done a lot of research on my own, without finding any solution. I've asked a PC repairman to find out if my system was at fault, which apparently isn't the case. Thank you for your patience, if you have any leads I'll take the time to test all the possibilities you can come up with.
(In reply to Carl Decras from comment #9) > Created attachment 188604 [details] > Reply - to your third e-mail I still don't understand this. Do you mean, you're trying each time to send an email in private? Hope not since you're just have to comment here by using: - this link to just comment: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156481# - this link to attach a file + comment: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?bugid=156481&action=enter > 1 - To come back to you, the only thing to remember is that for any file, as > soon as the "save" function is executed, the file is damaged by Libre Office > Writer. Ok so useless since it's the resulting file. > 2 - The 19 MB file will be copyrighted and is therefore confidential. Ok so we can't reproduce the bug. > 3 - In my comments, I'd like to add that I've sent you another file that I > didn't save initially, and a copy that I re-read and saved with a corrupted > result - see Attachments "Reply 3 - to your e-mail". - 188591 - Ok this one was corrupted but openable, anyway this one is useless since it's still not the original file. > I admit I don't know what to do, I've done a lot of research on my own, > without finding any solution. I've asked a PC repairman to find out if my > system was at fault, which apparently isn't the case. Except buying MsOffice or finding someone who has MsOffice to save the original file in docx (which is more recent) or even better in odt (the native file of LO), I don't have idea too. Uncc myself since I can't help here.
Created attachment 188610 [details] Last Reply Hello Thank you very much for your patience and attention in helping me. I understand that you have not found a solution to help me and following your advice I will turn to Microsoft, my files are visible and editable without corruption from Word It's a shame to turn my back on the adventure I've had with Libre Office and the admiration I have for such competent people who are open to others. I'd like to thank you once again and wish you all the best for the future, but I must make sure that I can continue my work without risk Best Regards
