Actually an extension exists to export images (PicExtract 1.0.1 by Kay Struck) but the creation of such a package is not supported.

As a quick workaround: exporting a hybrid PDF allows to package the original editable document with all the linked images with a single click. The hybrid PDF is a single PDF file, which shows all the linked images in a PDF viewer, and LibreOffice can open it for editing, retrieving the OpenDocument file from the single PDF:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/Writer/PDF_Hybrid

The only problem, that the retrieved document doesn't show the linked images, if they are not on the (relative) path.

The workaround is not useful. The purpose is preserve the file and images for archiving or to send it to someone to workout the file without worries about the images position. As you know, moving a file and an images folder to anothe disk or folder change the links with respect to the new location (correct and expected behaviour).
This functionality would be very useful to me and is implemented in other dtp applications.
