Description: Opening writer and/or calc some gray squares appear on the interface of the document. This not transparent chunks are on the foreground an are not related to the document. They dont appear in print preview document but in the interface (writer). They not appear in Impress interface. They are also not related to hardware acceleration. I had this .problem in all the version of LO7 I tried and not il lower versions 4 or 5. Perhaps is a bug similar to bug 154443 or in https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/grayed-out-chunks-of-text/62582 Very annoying at work. There's also a crazy large square with black border not related to the backgroung cells. I have them on an acer Laptop with intel graphics alongside with a nvidia 3d accelerator chip Any help will be appreciated. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open libreoffice 2.choose a writer or calc document 3. Actual Results: I tried several view configurations in options and reinitialited the user profiles It happened also to all the users Expected Results: nothing changed Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes Additional Info: Debian 12 Intel 7

Hi, all, has anyone read my post? I saw that several bugs numbered post mine have been taken on. Wrong section, any suggestion? Did I make some mistakes in reporting this issue or wrong procedure (I'm serious)? Many thanks in advance for any suggestion. David
Thanks for the report Barabba. Please test a recent version, preferably 7.6, and let us know if you still experience the same issue: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/ If you do, please share the information copied from Help > About LibreOffice. Thank you!
Thank you Stéphane Guillou! Version: 7.6.0.3 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 69edd8b8ebc41d00b4de3915dc82f8f0fc3b6265 CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.1; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: it-IT (it_IT.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Different behavior A) if I start from terminal /usr/bin/libreoffice or /usr/bin/soffice I get NO ERROR but a weird interface with very little size menu characters (I did'nt find a way to change style and character size with the last versions of LO) I share a picture B) if I start from graphical DEBIAN menu (whatever the command is given directly or as application in terminal) libreoffice --writer %U libreoffice --calc %U libreoffice or soffice ( is the same) the menus and the interface are CORRECT but I GET the graphical error. starting with the general command libreoffice or soffice and then choosing a document or a spreadsheet give me a correct page but as soon I clic on the document or on a cell the issue comes out. I share a picture I went on and observed that the three gray marks and the bordered box came from the push-menu button of the chraracter field, character size field in the formatting (style too) bar and equation bar, the push-menu button of the cell name field and the formula field as a replication of them, moved down and right on the window. The problem is not outside the program window. when I disable the bar visualization in calc or writer they are not more visible (I use MATE desktop) Again thanks for your time spending David

Created attachment 189363 [details] B-libreoffice_from_debian_graphical_menu-screenshot
(In reply to Barabba from comment #5) > Created attachment 189362 [details] > A-libreoffice_from_terminal-screenshot This the gen VCL plugin, a different graphical plugin less integrated into your desktop environment. (In reply to Barabba from comment #6) > Created attachment 189363 [details] > B-libreoffice_from_debian_graphical_menu-screenshot Looks like your issue is specific to the GTK VCL plugin. Do you have all your packages up to date? What theme are you using for your desktop environment? Is it a default MATE theme or something more custom?
(and please check that your NVidia drivers are also up to date)
hi Stéphane Guillou, thanks for suggestion! I tried several different themes and using some (few) of them solved the situation. Looking at the theme properties and playing with them I found that the issue is related to the choice of the controls inside the theme. I have several themes coming from earlier distributions (Mint versions exspecially), so now i'm using the Traditional theme and seems ok. The bug is not solved in my poor opinion (is not clear why it happens), but if you think is not the case of spending time on it do you vale to sign the issue closed/solved ? Have a nice evening, David
