Description outgunner8+Bugzilla 2023-09-30 17:26:41 UTC
Description:
LibreOffice Writer will open if LibreOffice is in this directory for example:
X:\Portable Installations\0 = PortableApps\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable

But not if it's in this directory:

X:\Portable Installations\0 = PortableApps Platform\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable

This is hardly a very long directory name so it's not reasonable that LibreOffice programs won't start if the file path to the LibreOfficePortable folder is over 77 characters.

If you try to open a program when it's in the above directory then it won't open and will just give a meaningless crash report. The problem is caused by too many characters in the file path to LibreOffice. It's not the amount of directories that's the problem, it's the amount of characters in the path to LibreOffice that prevents LibreOffice programs such as Writer from opening. If the path has more than 77 characters then the programs won't open whether the LibreOffice directory is within the PortableApps platform or not. I'm using Windows 7 64bit with SP1

I spent a long time trying to fix this bug only to find out that it was just too many characters in the file path. How many newcomers to LibreOffice have you lost because of this silly bug that won't even allow them to open the LibreOffice programs which just put people off of LibreOffice as they think the software doesn't work?

Steps to Reproduce:
Open Writer.

Actual Results:
Writer won't open.

Expected Results:
Writer should open.

Reproducible: Always
