Description Trevor 2023-10-06 23:37:47 UTC
Description:
I have just installed LO v7.5.7 (LibreOffice_7.5.7_Win_x86-64.msi) following the online instructions to the letter. Also The helppack (LibreOffice_7.5.7_Win_x86-64_helppack_en-GB.msi). Both programs were installed into the same folder. My machine is an ASUS X515J running Windows 11. In LO writer when I press F1 or LibreOffice Help from the Help menu, a new window looking like LO writer without the menus comes up with the title NewHelp1.html - LibreOffice Writer/Web, but no help information. Can you help me with this problem?

Actual Results:
Run LO writer, press F1.

Expected Results:
A new window LO writer appeared with the heading: NewHelp1.html - LibreOffice Writer/Web.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Shown me a help screen. I haven't seen this yet as I haven't properly used LO yet.

Update 8th October.

Since submitting my bug report I have tried a few things. On another laptop (running Windows 10 and Opera browser),I have LO 6.44 installed and F1 works fine so I uninstalled LO from the laptop where F1 is a problem and installed v6.44. Interestingly the F1 problem remained. Then thinking it might be a browser problem I changed the default browser from Opera to Edge and hey presto - problem solved.

Please let me know if a fix is eventually produced as I much prefer Opera to Edge.

Hi Trevor,

I tried reproducing your observed error.
On a linux system and on a win11 machine.
The latest release (7.6.2) and with 7.5.1.
Each time just after starting writer i pressed the F1 button. No issues.

Browser version used:
Opera One(Version: 103.0.4928.26)
Auf Updates prüfen…
Update-Stream:Stable
Betriebssystem:Windows 11 64-bit
Chromium-Version:117.0.5938.150

Do you use the same browser version?

For Clarification:
The actual result (the observed behaviour) is, that after you press F1, an opera browser window opens and in the url-bar is written: "NewHelp1.html...."?

Your problem occured under similar circumstances in the past. When googling "NewHelp1.html" - you do get some results. The one most fitting for your situation:
https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/2019/msg00185.html
"[...]the same problem as you using LibreOffice on Windows. It was solved by checking that the user interface language (Tools -
Language settings -> User interface) was the same of that of the Help file that you installed.[...]"
Though I tried it on my machine and got no problem with 7.6.2 (even if used help pack of 7.5 US) or 7.5.7.

Can you tell me your UI language (Options - Language Settings - Languages)?

Additional: Maybe a duplicate of 154261

Hello [Bug 157647] Getting F1 to work.

I originally chose v7.5.7 and discovered the annoying F1 problem. Since then I noticed that making Edge default browser F1 worked ok. Since then i have tried 6.4.4, v.7.5.7 and now v 7.6.2 all are now working ok and I'm back with Opera as default browser.. My Opera has now updated but previously was vers 102.0.4880.78. I hope that helps. Now that the problem has gone away, I would like to close my enquiry.

thanks

Trevor

Thank you for reporting back, Trevor!
Let's close as "works for me".
I've seen other reports about the default navigator changing. See for example bug 153823.
Somehow your default program for opening HTML files must have been set to LibreOffice.
