Description george 2023-10-29 06:40:48 UTC
Description:
While it is possible to create "soft shadows" for images in libre draw & impress, essential creating a "3D" effect, this functionality does not exist in libre writer

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Import an image in a libre writer document
2.There is no "enable shadow" option

Actual Results:
It is impossible to add shadow around an image. You need to manipulate image in an external app (like gimp), then copy/paste in writer. Of course you need to repeat if you are not happy with the result which is inconvenient.

Expected Results:
"Enable shadows" option should be in libre writer also.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Please see attached image which showcases the shadow for images functionality in libre draw and libre impress. This option should be also added in libre writer.

Workaround: First insert the image in Draw. Then copy and paste it from Draw to the text document. Now it is a "Draw-image" and you have the same features for it as in Draw.

Still, I believe, the functionality should be implemented in writer without the need of any other app.

btw, I tried what you are proposing and still there is no shadow option...

Confirmed, not possible to add a _soft_ shadow (with blur and transparency) using the UI in Writer:

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 31fb3045dabdb27d913712f3abcade315e3ea9bd
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

We can however insert a basic, solid shadow: Format > Image > Properties > Borders > Shadow Style.
