Description Tracey 2023-10-31 15:41:15 UTC
Add a warning that resetting default fonts changes the existing document.

The default fonts cannot be reset unless there is an open document
Suggest opening a new/blank document to reset the fonts.

I re-installed LibreOffice in an effort to resolve an issue, I had an existing document open then reset the default fonts.
It changed all the fonts in the open document to default fonts :-O

Ouch, Tracey

Hi Tracey,

Can you provide step-by-step instructions for how you reset the default fonts? Thanks!

I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' once the steps are provided

Step 1 Uninstall and reinstall LibreOffice (per instructions to clear potential issues).
Step 2 Reinstall LibreOffice
Step 3 Desire to change [LibreOffice default fonts] to [my desired default fonts], but a text document must be opened to change writer default fonts.
Step 4 I opened one of my documents (I should have opened a (blank/empty/new) document.
Step 5 Open Tools> Options> Writer> Default Fonts: set fonts to desired fonts

I assumed resetting the default fonts would be applied to new documents.

It changed all the fonts in my existing document (which had 3 different fonts) to the my chosen default font settings [Liberation Sans of various point sizes].

My mistake, but I want others to be made aware of the impact of the change.
Thanks, Tracey

example text with different fonts

Thanks Tracey! I was able to reproduce the issue. Clarifying the steps for reproduction below.

Steps:
1. Download attached document containing text with different fonts
2. Go to Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts (Western)
3. Click Default button
4. Click Apply button
5. Note changes to the font of the text in the document

Expected result: the text of font used in existing document should be retained. Any changes to fonts in Options screen should be applied to subsequent edits in the document.

Actual result: the text of font used in existing document are reset to default. Note that even manual changes to the fonts in the Options screen will also result in changing the font of existing text.
