Popup from census site. Unknown why or from which link.

This bug was filed from the crash reporting server and is br-01a054ee-5d6b-4a08-a2f8-55cc9bc8d860.
=========================================
The popup for the crash submission stated:

"Please check the report and if no bug report is connected to the crash report yet, open a new bug report at bugs.documentfoundation.org."

Couple of pages of crashes, but no bugs opened. It would appear that no one would go to the trouble of getting a valid user account.

I do NOT know how to reproduce the crash. If it's any help, I had ~13 tabs open in FireFox, ~8 open applications on the task bar. I usually "Alt+Tab" between open applications. IIRC I was switching from FireFox to LibreOffice when the crash occurred.

I had these links open (among others):

https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/about/survey-is-mandatory.html
https://www.census.gov/newsroom/blogs/director/2010/01/why-is-the-census-mandatory.html

I was trying to paste from this page:

https://www.census.gov/acs/www/about/why-we-ask-each-question/

into a Writer doc.

Can't help y'all; regrets.

Reproduced:

https://crashreport.libreoffice.org/stats/crash_details/01a054ee-5d6b-4a08-a2f8-55cc9bc8d860

The Funky popup was from LibreOffice (in regard to my paste operation?) from the website:

https://www.census.gov/acs/www/about/why-we-ask-each-question/

Start of paste request (block begins):

Why We Ask Each Question

Are you curious about why we ask questions related to a specific topic on the American Community Survey (ACS)? Every question has a required purpose and many uses to help communities.

(block ends at the bottom of the page)

Year Built and Year Moved In
Housing Questions: 2, 3

Third attempt I clicked the "Help" button in the popup. URL resolved to:

file:///C:/LibreOffice/help/en-US/text/shared/05/err_html.html?System=WIN&DbPAR=WRITER&HID=uui/ui/logindialog/dialog-action_area1

Could not find Help page (404).

That is an error. Possible causes are:

The page does not exist and must be created.

The page exists, but the Help ID is wrong or missing.

Use the Module, Contents, Index and Search selectors to find the right page.

The following data could be helpful in locating the error:

Help ID: uui/ui/logindialog/dialog-action_area1

Beyond this, can't help ya. I'm still a windoze Luser.

Please detail the step to test the issue.
Also, please paste here the information on Menu/Help/About LibreOffice (There is an icon to copy)

Have you tested with Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode?
Comment 3 Don Busch 2023-12-08 12:51:06 UTC
I did not try the "Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode".

I spent about two hours, ish, trying again to re-duplicate the crash. NoGo.

The paste operation DID complete, this time.

The two times it DID crash (last week), EITHER clicking the LibreOffice Icon on the Task Bar (for the Popup message) OR clicking the "Cancel" button on the Popup; caused the crash.

Odd. I had always thought this was a Win7 machine.

This is already tracked in bug 149220.

Regarding the crash/freeze, I tried on Linux with the following steps:
1. Go to https://www.census.gov/acs/www/about/why-we-ask-each-question/
2. Select everything with Ctrl + A, copy it
3. In Writer, paste
4. Authentication dialog pops up twice; cancel it every time.

Result: frozen between the two authentication dialogs, but contents eventually pasted after cancelling the second dialog (with pictures).

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha1+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community

In LO 7.2.0.3, the dialog pops up dozens of times, but eventually the contents are pasted (broken pictures).

In OOo 3.3, OnlyOffice 7.5.1.23 and MS Office 365 (online), paste finishes in only a few seconds, without a prompt for credentials. (No picture for OOo or MS Office.)

In any case, I'd recommend using a recent version, the latest being 7.6.4.

Let's see if someone else can do some more testing on Windows.

Took about a minute to open with

Should we repurpose this to be about the perf?

The crash signature is still seen in 7.6.4, so it's good to have this report linked to it.
I've opened bug 158812 to track the freeze, using an archived version of the website which doesn't bring up the authentication dialogs.

Good to know it wasn't me doing something stoopid. I might have, but others have had somewhat similar problems; so it is not ONLY this keyboard driver.

I do Thank y'all for bettering LO.

I wasn't able to replicate this behavior in

Version: 24.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: db4def46b0453cc22e2d0305797cf981b68ef5ac
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

But when attempting to replicate the behavior in

Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: a2265e8faa099d9652efd12392c2877c2df1d1eb
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

I was eventually able to post the contents of the page, but I had to cancel the authentication popup over 20 times. When it finally posted, the images on the page were broken.
