Description Alan 2023-12-17 17:19:12 UTC
Description:
Scrolling seems to have an issue on a Mac with the intel chips. The scrolling does not work smoothly. I've tried the download twice but the problem still exists.

Actual Results:
When I load a long Spreadsheet the scrolling function is eratic and not smooth as in the 7.5.8 version

Expected Results:
Scrolling of long sheets should be smooth as in previous versions.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Smoothed the scrolling function.

I am also experiencing the same issue when scrolling in Calc and Writer, no matter if I scroll with the mouse wheel or the scroll bar. The page stays frozen for a few seconds before suddenly jumping to wherever I stopped scrolling (instead of smoothly moving the content as I scroll up and down).

Removing 7.5.9 and going back to 7.5.8 solves the issue for now.

All on Intel Macs running macOS Ventura 13.6.3

I believe that this a duplicate of issue 155266. There is a fix for this bug but, unfortunately, fix will not be available until the LibreOffice 7.6.5 release.

However, if you want to test the fix now, the fix is already in LibreOffice 24.2.0 Beta1. Download links for the beta version are below:

Mac Intel:
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/?type=mac-x86_64&version=24.2.0&lang=en-US

Mac Silicon:
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/?type=mac-aarch64&version=24.2.0&lang=en-US

Note: beta versions of LibreOffice are installed in /Applications/LibreOfficeDev.app so it will not overwrite your existing LibreOffice 7.5.x or 7.6.x installation. But, you may need to double-click on /Applications/LibreOfficeDev.app in the Finder to be sure that you have launched the beta version.

Please reopen if the beta version does not fix this bug.

Update: a tester has found a workaround without having to install any beta versions: switch to Skia/Metal rendering.

To enable Skia/Metal rendering, do the following steps:

1. Open the Options dialog by selecting the LibreOffice > Preferences menu
2. Select LibreOffice > View in the left panel
3. In the right panel, check the "Use Skia for all rendering" and uncheck "Force Skia software rendering" checkboxes as shown in the following screen snapshot:

4. Press the "OK" button and restart if prompted
